PALO ALTO, Calif. - Austin Dewey advanced to the finals of the 2017 Pac-12 Championships, Sunday with his win over No. 18 ranked Peter Galli of Stanford.
In his lone match of the first session at Maples Pavilion, Dewey rode Galli, the No. 2 seed of the tournament, out for the entire second period to maintain a 3-3 tie and gain the riding time advantage. The redshirt senior added a takedown in the final 30 seconds to hold extend his lead.
This will be Dewey's second straight appearance in the Pac-12 finals after advancing last season.
Josh Newberg (133), Fred Green (157) and Harley DiLulo (197) won their opening matches to advance to the semifinals, while Demetrius Romero (165) had a first round bye.
Newberg and DiLulo won by decision, while Green added his team-leading 10th pin of the season over Oregon State's Abraham Rodriguez.
DiLulo's 9-4 decision over No. 4 seed Tom Lane of Cal Poly snapped a nine match losing streak for the junior.
Four of the five Broncos to advance to the semifinals lost their matches to top-seeded opponents.
Boise State is currently in sixth place with 48 points.
The consolation semifinals are scheduled for 5 p.m. (MT) while the finals will begin at 7 p.m. (MT). The finals will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Network.
