THE GAME: The Broncos (2-4) will travel to Phoenix, Ariz., and take on Grand Canyon (4-3) this coming Saturday, Dec. 1 at Grand Canyon University Arena. The contest is the return game of a two-year series, as the two teams played in Boise last season.
WATCH: The game will broadcast on ESPN3 with Barry Buetel as play-by-play, Scott Williams as analyst and Kate Longworth as sideline reporter.
The game will also air locally in Arizona on Yurview channel 4, as well as on GCU.TV.
RADIO: Chris Lewis will handle play-by-play duties while Abe Jackson will provide commentary. The game will air on 93.1 FM KTIK.
LAST TIME OUT: The Broncos dealt with considerable foul trouble against Drake (Tuesday, Nov. 27), eventually coming up short to the Bulldogs in Des Moines, 83-74.
Boise State was juggling players in and out of the game throughout the second half, as RJ Williams picked up his fourth foul at the 16:46 mark while Zach Haney picked up his fourth at 12:39. David Wacker earned his fourth foul with 6:41 to play and eventually fouled out with 2:28 left.
After trailing for all of the second half, Boise State was able to cut the deficit to three points with 3:36 to play (73-70), but Drake hit 8 of 10 from the line in the final stretch and the Broncos missed two 3-pointers in the last eight seconds.
Justinian Jessup was the top scorer for the Broncos with a season-high 21 points. The junior also tallied team highs in minutes (38) and assists (3).
ABOUT GRAND CANYON: The Lopes (4-3) are coming off a 1-2 performance at the Wooden Legacy Classic, losing to Seton Hall (82-75) and Utah (75-66) before picking up a win against La Salle (82-70) in the seventh-place game.
Grand Canyon is led by sophomore Alessandro Lever, is first on team in scoring (14.4) and second in rebounding (5.1). The Lopes have been most dangerous when getting to the charity stripe, as their 129 made free throws ranks No. 27 in the NCAA.
THE SERIES: The only previous meeting between the two teams took place in Boise last season (Dec. 13, 2017) with the Broncos claiming the thrilling 85-80 double overtime victory. Chandler Hutchison led the way with 27 points, but it was Lexus Williams who provided the late-game heroics, as it was his 3-pointer with three seconds remaining in regulation that tied the game at 63-63 to force overtime.
ROAD WARRIORS: The trip to and from Phoenix will mark the end of a grueling 16 days of travel for the Blue and Orange. With trips to the Cayman Islands, Iowa and now Arizona, Boise State will have logged 9,038 miles (as the crow flies) since Nov. 16 when first departing for the Cayman Islands Classic.
DOUBLE J PLAYING WELL: The Broncos' returning scorer from 2017-18 at 11.6 points per game – Justinian Jessup – has rounded into form the last few games, scoring 15 or more points in three of the team's last four games. His 21 against Drake (Nov. 27) was a season high and just shy of his career high of 23 that came at home against New Mexico (Jan. 3) last season.
The junior has also been distributing the ball at a high level, averaging 3.7 assists per game to rank ninth in the Mountain West.
Jessup's 156 career 3-pointers also puts him within reach of cracking the program's all-time top-10 list, as Chris Childs (1985-89) and Roberto Bergersen (1996-99) are tied for 10th with 163.
DICKINSON THRIVING AS A STARTER: Marcus Dickinson has continuously improved over the last five games as the team's starting point guard. After scoring 0 points in his first start against Jackson State (Nov. 16), the junior has improved with four points against both Creighton (Nov. 19) and St. Bonaventure (Nov. 20), nine against Illinois State (Nov. 21) and a season-high 14 at Drake (Nov. 27).
