Game Notes
THE GAME: Boise State (3-5) will take on its second opponent from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) this nonconference season in Alabama State (2-4), this Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. back at Taco Bell Arena.
WATCH: The game will stream on the Mountain West Network.
RADIO: Bob Behler will handle play-by-play duties while Abe Jackson will provide commentary. The game will air on 670 AM KBOI or on the TuneIn app.
LAST TIME OUT: Boise State returned to the win column with an 82-62 victory over Central Washington this past Saturday at Taco Bell Arena. RJ Williams was the top scorer with 14 points while Alex Hobbs and Justinian Jessup were close behind with 13 points each. Derrick Alston was also in double figures with 12.
The Broncos closed the game on a 24-10 run in the final 9:10 to claim the 20-point win - tying the team's largest margin of victory this season. The Blue and Orange got to the charity stripe a season-high 30 times, going 19-of-30. Marcus Dickinson also notched a career high in assists with six, playing 30 minutes.
ABOUT ALABAMA STATE: The Hornets enter Wednesday coming off a two-week layoff without a game (last played Nov. 28 at Akron). The game against the Broncos marks the beginning of an 11-day road trip for Alabama State.
The Hornets are led by Reginald Gee (15.2 ppg) and Jacoby Ross (13.8 ppg) – two guards who are the team's only double-digit scorers.
FIRST MEETING: Tomorrow night's game will be the first meeting between Boise State and Alabama State. The Broncos are 2-0 against SWAC schools in head coach Leon Rice's time at Boise State, as the team picked up the 81-63 win against Texas Southern (Nov. 11, 2012) and most recently defeated Jackson State, 70-53, earlier this season (Nov. 16).
HOBBS IS BACK: Hobbs' 13 points against the Wildcats last Saturday was a welcome sight for Boise State, as the 2017-18 Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year had not played since Nov. 21 against Illinois State. His play has always been a massive lift for the Blue and Orange since joining the team as a freshman in 2016-17, as the Broncos are 14-4 in games when Hobbs scores in double digits.
TAKING CARE OF IT: While Boise State was able to get to the free throw line a season-high 30 times and shoot another high percentage from the field (48.3%, 28-of-58), the Broncos' victory over Central Washington was highlighted the most by a season-low eight turnovers. Maximizing possessions and valuing the ball has led to success in the Rice era, as shown by the team's 50-19 record since 2010 when committing 10 or fewer turnovers.
JESSUP CLOSE TO TOP-10 LIST: With 160 career 3-pointers, Justinian Jessup is just three away from tying Chris Childs and Roberto Bergersen for 10th place on the Boise State all-time list, who both have 163. Just 72 games into his Bronco career, Jessup is the fastest to 160 threes in program history.
