The Boise State softball team (1-1) opened the 2018 season with a split, defeating South Dakota 11-3 in the opener, but falling to No. 11/12 Tennessee, 8-1, on the first day of the Kajikawa Classic.

Boise State notched a win in a season opener for the first time since 2014, downing South Dakota 11-3 at Farrington Stadium.

Paige Reimann came in for the third inning with two runners on base and zero outs The redshirt senior allowed only one run off two hits in 2.2 innings of work to notch the win.

The Broncos struck first in the top of the second on a single to left field by freshman Ashlyn Adams, bringing Makenzie Sullivan home from second. Boise State tacked on another pair of runs in the inning off a wild pitch that brought Shaelee Pearson home, while Adams crossed the plate on a double from Kora Wade.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Coyotes were able to pull within 5-3 on a home run to centerfield from Jamie Holscher. Boise State responded in dominant fashion, exploding for four runs in the top of the sixth, with Justene Molina, Rebekah Cervantes, Jessica McKay and Bri Ambrose all making it home.

Both Wade and Cervantes led the team with three hits. Both, along with McKay, also batted in two runs.

Tennessee Recap

Rainey Dyreson held Tennessee scoreless in 2.2 innings of relief, but it was not enough as the Broncos dropped the contest against the Vols, 8-1.

Boise State was able to pull within 1-1 in the top of the third inning when Halle Harger hit a single bringing Adams home from third. Tennessee would explode for three runs in the bottom of the third, and four runs in the bottom of the fourth to beat the Broncos.

Dyreson ended the game allowing only one hit, while fanning two batters.

Molina, Harger, Seng and Adams all recorded a hit for Boise State.
