WHAT IS HAPPENING THIS WEEK

  • Boise State (6-1) returns home for the first time this season to host the Boise State Classic in Bronco Gym featuring No. 13 Washington (5-2), CSU Northridge (4-5), Portland (9-0) and Sacramento State (5-6).
  • The Broncos open Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. (Mountain) when they host the 13th-ranked Washington Huskies. 
  • Friday will feature five contests starting at 9:30 a.m. (MT) and running consecutively throughout the day. Boise State will play in two of the matches at 2:30 p.m. (MT) versus CSU Northridge and at 7:30 p.m. (MT) against undefeated Portland. 
  • On Saturday there will be two matches starting at 10 a.m. (MT) with the Broncos playing in the last one at noon against Sacramento State. 
  • The match versus Santa Clara will have live video and live stats, while the UCD contest will feature live stats only. For access go to the volleyball schedule page on BroncoSports.com for the links.  

TOURNAMENT PARKING

  • Free parking will be available throughout the tournament in the West Albertsons Stadium Lot by Bronco Gym, use the Kiosk and pick the volleyball option.

2018 ADMISSION COST

  • Ticket prices remain the same for 2018 as in previous years:
  • $6.00 Adult
  • $4.00 Junior (2-18) / Senior (62+)
  • Boise State Students are free with valid student I.D. card.
  • TOURNAMENT NOTE: Fans will need to purchase a ticket (at the prices listed above) for each day of the tournament, the daily ticket will be good for all matches on that day.

DO NOT MISS THE MATCH, ARRIVE EARLY

  • We are expecting a sale out crowd on Thursday night against No. 13 Washington, all fans are encouraged to show up early (doors open at 6:30 p.m.) even if you have a Bronco Sports Pass or have purchased a ticket in advance, there are no reserved seats and doors will close when seats are gone, regardless.

BRONCO SEASON STORY LINES

BOISE STATE'S RECORD SEASON-OPENING WIN STREAK ENDS
  • Boise State opened the 2018 campaign with six straight wins to set the school record for longest win streak to open a season, the record win came at Santa Clara 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 6.. 
  • The streak ended last Friday when the Broncos lost 3-1 to UC Davis at the Santa Clara Invitational.  
HEAD COACH SHAWN GARUS
  • Coach Garus is a two-time MW Coach of the Year (2015 and 2016), as well as the 2016 AVCA Region Coach of the Year.
  • Garus is 274-241 overall in his 18th year as a collegiate head coach. 
  • Garus is currently 166-122 at Boise State in his 10th season.
  • Garus ranks second in total wins in program history, out of 10 coaches all-time. 
  • Garus has recorded seven winning seasons, three (2010, 2015-16) with 20-plus wins, in his first nine seasons at Boise State.
BRONCOS BY THE NUMBERS
  • Leaders: Sabryn Roberts leads Boise State with 3.93 kills per set (2nd MW) ... Jessica Donahue adds 2.21 kps and team-high 1.5 blocks per set (2nd MW / 15th NCAA) ... Kiley Lewis has 2.18 kps, followed by Morgan Hguhes at 2.04 kps.
  • Team: As a team the Broncos are hitting 18.6 percent (10th MW) while holding opponents to 13.6 percent (1st MW / 12th NCAA) ... they average 12.64 kills (7th MW), 11.82 assists (7th MW), 1.75 service aces (4th MW / 35th NCAA), 15.54 digs (4th MW) and 2.96 (2nd MW / 6th NCAA) blocks per set. 
ROBERTS APPROACHES 1,000 KILLS
  • Senior outside hitter Sabryn Roberts needs one kill this week to reach 1,000 career kills.
  • When she does, Roberts will become the 15th member of the Boise State 1,000 career kills club.
ROBERTS THE LEADER OF THE PACK
  • Sabryn Roberts has led the team in kills during all seven contests to date reaching double-digits each time and 20-plus in two matches, Portland State (20) and Milwaukee (21).
  • Roberts also has a team-high five double-doubles (kills and digs combination)
DONAHUE, MASTER OF THE BLOCK
  • True freshman Jessica Donahue has made a huge impact for the Broncos at the net recording a team-high 42 blocks to date.
  • She is second the MW and is ranked 55th nationally for total blocks ... second the MW and is ranked 15th nationally in blocks per set at 1.5.
  • In her first collegiate match versus Long Beach State, Donahue set the Boise State freshman record for blocks in a match with 10.
  • Her 10 blocks against Long Beach State is ranked tied for seventh in program history.
MORGAN HUGHES SERVING UP ACES
  • Senior transfer Morgan Hughes has made an immediate impact on the team leading the team in service aces with 15  to rank 5th in the MW and 51st nationally.
  • She is third in the MW and 32nd in the NCAA for service aces per set at 0.54.
  • Hughes is also second on the team in blocks (31) and fourth in kills (57) and digs (44).

MATCH PREVIEWS

WASHINGTON MATCH PREVIEW
  • The Broncos and 13th-ranked Washington will open the Boise State Classic at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.  
  • This will be the 18th meeting all-time which Washington leads 12-5 ... the last meeting went to Washington 3-0 on Aug. 29, 2015 in Spokane, Wash.  
  • Washington is 5-2 on the year and is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Panther Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa., where they defeated Dayton (3-2) and Kennesaw State (3-1), sandwiched around a loss to current No. 9 Pitt (3-0).
  • Washington is hitting 22.4 percent on the year and holding opponents to 24.2 percent ... the  Huskies are led by Kara Bajema with 109 kills (4.04 kps) and Samantha Drechsel with 74 kills (2.74 kps).
  • The Washington Huskies are members of the Pacific-12 Conference where they are picked to place sixth out of 12 teams in 2018.
CSUN MATCH PREVIEW
  • Boise State will face CSU Northridge in the third match on Friday scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. (MT) depending on the progress of the first two contests. 
  • This will be the sixth meeting of the series in which CSUN leads 4-1 ... they have not met since 2008 when the Matadors won 3-0 at Northridge.
  • CSU Northridge enters the tournament at 4-5 overall and coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Lumberjack Classic in Flagstaff, Ariz., where they lost to No. 8 Florida (3-0) then defeated Southern Illinois (3-1) and Northern Arizona (3-2).
  • The Matadors are hitting 19.3 percent on the year and are holding opponents to 24 percent ... Aeryn Owens leads 58 kills (4.27 kps), followed by Lexi McLeod with 88 kills (2.38 kps). 
  • CSUN is a member of the Big West Conference where it is picked to place seventh out of nine schools.   
PORTLAND MATCH PREVIEW
  • Boise State and Portland will square-off in the night cap (fifth of the day) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. (MT) depending on the progress of the earlier matches.  
  • This will be the 13th meeting of the series with Boise State leading 8-4 ... the last time they met was 2010 when the Broncos won 3-0 at a neutral site.
  • The Pilots enter the tournament undefeated at 9-0 and receiving top-25 votes ... they are coming off a 3-0 weekend at a tournament in Hawaii where they defeated San Diego State (3-0), Hawai'i (3-2) and Idaho (3-0).
  • Portland is  hitting 30.8 percent on the year and are holding opponents to 19.2 percent ... Reghan Pukis leads with 124 kills (3.76 kps), followed by Shayla Hoeft with 102 kills (3.09 kps). 
  • Portland is a member of the West Coast Conference where it is picked to place eighth out of 10 schools.   
SACRAMENTO STATE MATCH PREVIEW
  • The Broncos and Sacramento State will close the Boise State Classic in the final contest at noon (MT) on Saturday, the second of two matches that day.  
  • This will be the eighth meeting of the series with Sac State leading 4-3 ... Boise State beat the Hornets 3-2 last year in Davis, Calif.
  • Sacramento State enters the tournament at 5-6 overall ... the Hornets are coming off a 2-1 weekend at home in the Sacramento State Invitational defeating Nevada (3-1) and UC Riverside (3-1) before falling to Seattle (3-2).
  • Sacramento State is hitting 18.2 percent on the year and is holding opponents to 17.3 percent ... Mikaela Nocetti leads with 156 kills (3.63 kps), followed by Sarah Davis with 100 kills (2.33 kps). 
  • Sacramento State is the defending champion of the Big Sky Conference where it was picked to place third out of 11 schools in 2018.
