SAN JOSE, Calif. - Boise State volleyball fell in three 25-20, 25-22, 25-23 at San Jose State in a Mountain West contest Saturday afternoon in Spartan Gym. Morgan Hughes led the Broncos hitting a team-high 38.1 percent with 10 kills, four digs and team-high four blocks, followed by Sabryn Roberts who had a team-high 13 kills with seven digs and two blocks.

"I'm disappointed in the outcome, but I thought we had our chances today," said Boise State head coach Shawn Garus. "We knew it was going to be tough here despite their record (5-7). Today we lacked the competitive spirit we needed to win a match like this. But we're still a young team so we are going to have ups and downs, the key for us is to learn from and work through the down times. We will hit the gym next week and work on the areas we had trouble with today and move forward."

The loss snaps the Broncos' two-match win streak as they move to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in conference, the Spartans improved to 6-7 on the year and 1-3 in league. Next up for Boise State is a two-match homestand next week against San Diego State on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Fresno State on Saturday in a contest that will start at 10 a.m.

Boise State started slow at San Jose State this afternoon and struggled serving in the match as the Broncos had one ace and 12 errors, while SJSU tallied 12 aces and four errors. The Broncos actually hit the ball better and had seven more kills in the contest than the Spartans, but could not get over the hump when it counted.

The Blue and Orange hit 26.8 percent with 43 kills on 41 assists, with 46 digs and six blocks. SJSU finished at 20.8 percent hitting for 36 kills on 33 assists, while matching the Broncos' dig and block totals with 46 and six, respectively.

Sophomore Kiley Lewis chipped in with nine kills, two digs and one block. Janell Walley hit 26 percent for seven kills to go with three assists, team-high 14 digs and one block. Cassedi Simon came into the contest to record a team-high 25 assists with two kills, six digs and one block.
