WHAT IS HAPPENING THIS WEEK

  • Boise State (10-5, 2-2 MW) is home for a pair of big matches this week hosting San Diego State (3-14, 1-3 MW) and league-leading Fresno State (11-5, 3-0 MW).
  • The Broncos open the week Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. (Mountain) against San Diego State ... the Aztecs are now healthy and have won two straight including Tuesday over previously ranked San Diego (3-0).
  • Boise State's Parents Weekend closes with an early 10 a.m. start on Saturday against league-leading Fresno State who defeated Colorado State last time out.

LAST WEEK, BRONCOS GET ROAD SPLIT IN MW PLAY 

  • Boise State was on the road for the second week of Mountain West Conference play where they split, sweeping at Nevada on Thursday before falling to San Jose State (3-0) on Saturday. 
  • Senior Sabryn Roberts led the Broncos on the week with a team-high 25 kills, 14 digs and six blocks, while Morgan Hughes added 19 kills, 10 digs and team-high nine blocks. 
  • Roberts' 12th kill of the night brought home the 3-0 win at Nevada in a match of runs for Boise State who finished the first set on a 13-0 run, a 3-0 run to take set two and a 7-0 run to close out the third. 
  • Boise State fell in three tight sets (25-20, 25-22, 25-23) at San Jose State on Saturday as Hughes led the Broncos hitting a team-high 38.1 percent with 10 kills, four digs and team-high four blocks, followed by Roberts who had a team-high 13 kills with seven digs and two blocks.

HEAD COACH SHAWN GARUS
  • Coach Garus is a two-time MW Coach of the Year (2015 and 2016), as well as the 2016 AVCA Region Coach of the Year.
  • Garus is 278-245 overall in his 18th year as a collegiate head coach. 
  • Garus is currently 170-126 at Boise State in his 10th season.
  • Garus ranks second in total wins in program history, out of 10 coaches all-time. 
  • Garus has recorded seven winning seasons, three (2010, 2015-16) with 20-plus wins, in his first nine seasons at Boise State.
BRONCOS BY THE NUMBERS
  • Leaders: Sabryn Roberts leads Boise State with 4.17 kills per set (2nd MW / 37th NCAA) ... Jessica Donahue adds 2.05 kps and team-high 1.45 blocks per set (2nd MW / 20th NCAA) ... Kiley Lewis has 2.26 kps, followed by Morgan Hughes at 2.2 kps.
  • Team: As a team the Broncos are hitting 21.4 percent (6th MW) while holding opponents to 15.6 percent (1st MW / 22nd NCAA) ... they average 13.09 kills (4th MW), 12.3 assists (3rd MW), 1.57 service aces (4th MW), 15.19 digs (4th MW) and 2.78 blocks per set (2nd MW / 13th NCAA). 
ROBERTS HITS 1,000 CAREER KILLS
  • Senior outside hitter Sabryn Roberts is the 15th member of the 1,000 career kills club .
  • Roberts currently has 1,113 career kills to ranked ninth all time.
ROBERTS THE LEADER OF THE PACK
  • Sabryn Roberts has led the team in kills during all 15 contests (including two ties) to date, reaching double-digits each time and 20-plus in three matches, Portland State (20), Milwaukee (21) and Washington (24).
  • Roberts also has a team-high six double-doubles (kills and digs combination)
DONAHUE, MASTER OF THE BLOCK
  • True freshman Jessica Donahue has made a huge impact for the Broncos at the net recording a team-high 61 blocks to date.
  • She is seventh in the MW for total blocks ... second the MW and is ranked 20th nationally in blocks per set at 1.45.
  • In her first collegiate match versus Long Beach State, Donahue set the Boise State freshman record for blocks in a match with 10.
  • Her 10 blocks against Long Beach State is ranked tied for seventh in program history.
MORGAN HUGHES SERVING UP ACES
  • Senior transfer Morgan Hughes has made an immediate impact on the team leading the team in service aces with 23  to rank fifth in the MW and 56th nationally.
  • She is fifth in the MW and 52nd in the NCAA for service aces per set at 0.43.
  • Hughes has also impacted the tam's defense and is second on the team and 10th in MW for blocks (63) ... second on team and seventh in MW for blocks per set at 1.17.

SAN DIEGO STATE MATCH PREVIEW

  • The Broncos open week three of MW play against San Diego State at 7:30 p.m. (MT) on Thursday.  
  • This will be the 15th meeting all-time with the series tied at seven each ... the teams split last year with the home team winning both times.  
  • SDSU enters the weekend at 3-14 overall and 1-3 in league ... the Aztecs are healthy now with their setters back and have led SDSU to two-straight wins defeating Wyoming (3-2) last Saturday and previously-ranked San Diego (3-0) on Tuesday.
  • San Diego State is hitting 20.1 percent (7th MW) on the year and holding opponents to 23 percent (10th MW) ... the Aztecs are led by Deja Harris hitting 34.2 percent to go with 3.07 kills and 1.25 blocks (4th MW) per set ... Ashlynn Dunbar leads in kills per set at 3.17 (10th MW). 
  • San Diego State was picked to tie with Boise State for third in this year's MW coaches preseason poll. 

FRESNO STATE MATCH PREVIEW

  • The Broncos will wrap up the week hosting league-leading Fresno State at 10 a.m. in Bronco Gym.  
  • This will be the 37th meeting all-time with the Bulldogs leading the series 20-16 ... Boise State has won eight straight over Fresno State, including both meetings last year, 3-0 in Boise and 3-1 in Fresno.  
  • Fresno State enters the week at 11-5 overall and 3-0 in conference ... the Bulldogs are coming off a pair of big home victories last week over Wyoming and Colorado State (3-1).
  • Fresno State is hitting 23.4 percent (4th MW) on the year and holding opponents to 19.0 percent (6th MW) ... the  Bulldogs are led by Taylor Slover averaging 3.56 kills per set (5th MW) and Jessica Gilbert at 2.55 kps.
  • The Bulldogs were picked seventh in this year's MW coaches preseason poll.
