
No. 7 Broncos Travel to Southern Utah for MRGC Opener

MEET INFO – The No. 7 Boise State Broncos (1-0) head to Southern Utah (1-0) for their first road test of the season on Friday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. MT. The meet will take place in the America First Events Center in Cedar City, Utah.
MRGC OPENER – This contest will be Boise State's first Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference face-off of the season. Co-head coaches Tina Bird and Neil Resnick are 7-1 in MRGC openers since the conference was established in 2013.
IN THE RANKINGS – The Blue and Orange earned a No. 7 spot in the rankings this week, released by Road to Nationals on Monday morning. This is their highest opening week ranking since Road to Nationals starting recording rankings in 1998. No. 7 is also Boise State's highest ranking in any week since week six of the 2017 season, in which they were also ranked seventh. Southern Utah sits in the top 50 at No. 41.
SCOUTING REPORT – Southern Utah opened their season last week with a 193.700 - 193.525 win over New Hampshire. Their highest team score came on balance beam, where the Thunderbirds recorded a 48.700. Sophomore Hannah Nipp led the way on beam with a 9.900.
PREVIOUS MEETING – The Broncos and Thunderbirds last met at the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference championships on March 22, 2018. Boise State took the MRGC title with a final score of 196.875, while Southern Utah came in fourth with a score of 195.575. Their last regular-season contest was on Jan. 26, where No. 9 Boise State defeated Southern Utah 195.475 - 193.475 after battling back from a slow start.
LAST WEEK – The Bronco Gymnastics team took down San Jose State and Air Force at their annual Pink Meet. Throughout each rotation, the Blue and Orange never lost the lead. They finished with a final score of 196.400, the top season-opener score in program history. Boise State swept the event titles, with Shani Remme winning the all-around, floor, and beam, where she notched a career-best. Sarah means earned the victory on vault with a 9.85. Courtney McGregor and Emily Muhlenhaupt tied for first place on bars with scores of 9.875.
CONFERENCE HONORS – Remme, McGregor, and Muhlenhaupt were given MRGC weekly honors, the conference announced Monday. Remme was named Gymnast of the Week, and also was tabbed as both the Floor and Beam Specialist of the Week after her stellar performances Sunday. Muhlenhaupt and McGregor were named co-Bars Specialists of the Week.
BACK-TO-BACK – The Broncos will face the Thunderbirds again next Friday at 7 p.m., this time in Boise at Taco Bell arena.Â
