BOISE, Idaho - Never giving up its lead, the No. 10 Boise State gymnastics team (4-0) took down Southern Utah (1-2) 196.625-195.525 on Friday night in front of a crowd of 1,194 at Taco Bell Arena.
"The team regrouped," co-head coach Neil Resnick said. "They were unbothered by last week's performance."
The Broncos began the meet on vault. Freshman Hope Masiado had another strong vault in her second collegiate home meet with a 9.800, while Sarah Means scored a 9.900, a score that crowned her event champion.
"Another phenomenal meet for Sarah Means," co-head coach Tina Bird said. "It is so nice to have her adding events this year and her floor routine is so much fun!"
The Blue and Orange came back strong from last week's shaky bars rotation performance in rotation two. Courtney McGregor took home the individual bars title with a 9.900, and freshman Alexis Stokes followed close behind with a 9.875, showing up once again in just her third collegiate gymnastics meet. Shani Remme and Emily Muhlenhaupt tied for third place with 9.850s.
In the third rotation, the roles were reversed from last week, as the Broncos struggled slightly on beam and the Thunderbirds shone on floor. Remme led the team with a 9.900, earning her the individual beam title. Means followed with a 9.825, putting her in second place.
The Broncos maintained a narrow lead going into the fourth rotation, ahead by only .250. They went on to have an amazing showing on floor, with back-to-back 9.875s from Tatum Bruden and Alex Esmerian. Remme brought home her second title of the night on floor, scoring a 9.925.
Remme's high scoring earned her the all-around title with a total score of 39.500, followed by teammate McGregor with a score of 39.325.
"We are proud of the team's performance." Resnick said. "They are working hard to perfect technique and gaining confidence and momentum meet-by-meet."
The Broncos look to remain undefeated and travel to San Jose, Calif. next week for a tri-meet with UC Davis. This meet will kick off a four-week road trip. They face the Spartans and the Mustangs at 8 p.m. MT at the Event Center.
