Broncos Climb To Seventh To Close Rose City Collegiate

10/1/2019 4:29:00 PM | Women's Golf

AURORA, Ore. - Boise State women's golf rebounded from Monday's difficult opening two rounds of the Rose City Collegiate on Tuesday, firing the fourth-lowest round of the 12-team field at 16-over (304). The solid final round helped the Broncos climb two spots on the team leaderboard, finishing seventh at 61-over (309-312-304=925).

The Broncos got off to a hot start, making the turn at 1-under as a team thanks in part to under-par rounds on the course's back nine (all five Broncos in the scoring quintet opened the round at No. 10) from Perry (-2) and Lacaze (-1), and Lashley and Suppelsa each sitting at 1-over. The top five on the team leaderboard was in sight as the Broncos sat sixth entering the final three holes (Nos. 7-9), but big numbers, which hurt the Broncos Monday, played a role in the team dropping a spot to seventh at the finish.

"Today our goal was to be 100 percent committed to every shot. It was working on our first nine holes, as everyone looked confident and we turned a one-under," said Boise State head coach Nicole Bird. "I'm not sure what happened on the last few holes but big numbers killed us again."

Senior Valentine Lacaze notched a couple of birdies in her final round, carding a team-low 74 to finish the event tied for 33rd at 18-over (84-76-74=234). Juniors Lexi Perry (79-78-76=233) and Nicole Suppelsa (75-81-77=233) ended up tied for 30th overall at 17-over after shooting rounds of 76 and 77, respectively. Fellow junior Morgan Lashley matched her career-low with a 77 Tuesday, finishing at 23-over (78-84-77=239), while sophomore Cora Mickelsen finished at 21-over (77-77-83=237).

Competing as individuals, redshirt senior Ivane Helias (81-80-83=244, +27) and freshman Elena Pany (79-80-89=248, +31) also completed action at the tournament.

"We are working on figuring out what mentality works for us. We are going to have a hard week of practice next week before we leave for Seattle, and hopefully get some things ironed out so we don't have those big numbers," Bird said.

Boise State plays its penultimate tournament of the fall Oct. 13-14, in Seattle, at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invite.
