Walley records seventh double-double of season to lead Broncos past Spartans.

BOISE, Idaho - Janell Walley's double-double on 12 kills and 15 digs led Boise State to a 3-1 (25-18, 25-17, 24-26, 25-22) Mountain West Conference victory over San Jose State Saturday afternoon in Bronco Gym. It was a battle for the Broncos as they held off numerous San Jose State rally attempts before claiming their 11th victory of the season to improve to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The match was tightly contested throughout with the Broncos pulling away down the stretch in the first two sets. The third set saw Boise State rally from nine points down (12-3) to earn one match point at 24-23, only to see the Spartans regroup and rally with a 3-0 run to steal the win. The Blue and Orange then broke open a 13-13 tie in the fourth with a 5-1 run to put the Broncos ahead for good, eventually winning the set by three, 25-22.

"I thought the team responded well after the loss on Thursday night," said head coach Shawn Garus. "We came out strong in the first set and we played better throughout the match today than we did the other night. But San Jose State is a scrappy team and kept battling back. I thought our team responded well to the pressure and kept fighting through it. I was looking for improvement over Thursday night and I was proud of the team showed today that they have another level that they can take it to."

Walley's 12 kills and 15 digs were both team highs, she hit 39.1 percent and added one service ace and three block assists to finish with a team-high 14.5 points.

Jessica Donahue was big at the net for Boise State as she hit 54.5 percent for seven kills to go with a team-high seven block assists, finishing with 10.5 points.

Offensively, three other Broncos played big roles in the win as well. Lauren Ohlinger tallied 11 kills, eight digs and five block assists; Shae Duffy contributed 10 kills, two service aces, seven digs and two block assists; while Alyssa Wissinger added six kills and six block assists.

Danielle Boss was solid throughout leading the Bronco attack from the setter position. The sophomore earned a double-double by distributing 40 assists to go with 10 digs, in addition, she had five kills, a team and career-high six service aces and three block assists.

Boise State out hit San Jose State 28.5 percent for 51 kills, while SJSU hit 17.2 percent with 49 kills. The Broncos recorded 13 blocks compared to the Spartans' 10.

Next up for Boise State is a road trip to New Mexico and UNLV this coming Thursday and Saturday in Mountain West action.
