LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â Boise State had little answer for Louisville down low Sunday, as the No. 8/9 Cardinals scored 52 points in the paint for the game, and shot 71.4 percent in the first half in a 98-82 win at the KFC Yum! Center.
The Cardinals made their first three attempts from the field, and went 13-for-19 over the opening 10 minutes, building a 31-14 lead that the Broncos could not overcome despite shooting 61.4 percent in the contest, the fifth-highest figure in program history.
Boise State (3-3) was down just one early, at 6-5, following A'Shanti Coleman's layup 2:22 into the contest, but Kylie Shook, who scored 15 points and was 7-for-10 from the field Sunday, answered with a layup in transition, kicking off a 12-0 run that broke the game open for Louisville (5-0). Shook finished the opening frame 3-for-3 and scored six of Louisville's first 10 points, all in the paint.
Coleman scored 15 points on 7-for-9 shooting Sunday. Despite shooting 61.4 percent from the field, the Broncos were plagued by turnovers, committing eight in the first quarter and 20 for the contest. Sophomore center Rachel Bowers scored 16 points on 8-for-11 shooting, while Braydey Hodgins went for 16 points.
Point guard Jayde Christopher passed out a career-high 14 assists, matching the program's single-game record, in addition to scoring 10 points to complete the double-double.
The Broncos tried to fight their way back into it in the second quarter, going 7-for-14 from the field and getting to within 15 at 44-29 following Braydey Hodgins' triple with 4:23 left in the half. But Boise State couldn't capitalize, as Shook scored four of the next six Cardinal points, all under the basket, and Elizabeth Balogun scored five-straight as the half ended with a 14-5 Louisville run to deepen the Bronco hole at 58-34.
Jazmine Jones led Louisville with 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting, with Dana Evans finishing with 20, with a 4-for-5 showing from 3-point range.
