BOISE, Idaho - Boise State makes its final non-conference road trip of the regular season, heading to Cheney, Wash., to take on Eastern Washington Sunday at 2:05 p.m. MT. The Broncos return to ExtraMile for the final week of non-conference play, hosting Western Oregon (Dec. 18, noon) and Pepperdine (Dec. 22, 2 p.m.).
LAST TIME OUT
Boise State picked up a big non-conference win Wednesday night, clamping down on BYU for a 66-55 win.
The Broncos defense held the Cougars to just 31.3-percent shooting, the lowest figure by a Boise State opponent this season, and out-rebounded BYU, 39-35, despite being at a size disadvantage.
On the offensive end, A'Shanti Coleman went 8-for-10 from the field for a game-high 19 points, while center Mallory McGwire posted her third double-double of the season, going for 15 points with 14 rebounds.
WHO'S NEXT
The Broncos make their final trip of the non-conference regular-season slate, heading to Cheney to face Eastern Washington Sunday.
The Eagles (1-5) picked up their first win of the season last Sunday, beating Northwest Christian, 81-62. Eastern Washington is led by the play of Bella Cravens (8.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg) and Kennedy Dickie (8.2 ppg, 11 3-pointers).
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's matchup will mark the 10th-straight season in which Boise State and Eastern Washington have faced off, and the 54th time overall.
Boise State leads the all-time series, 33-20, and has won the past five meetings.
IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Boise State has found itself, as well as a handful of players, ranked fairly high in early national stat rankings through Dec. 9.
As a team, the Broncos rank tied for first with DePaul in assists (203). The Broncos' 46.1 field-goal percentage ranks 25th, and the team's 96 3-pointers are fifth in the country.
Individually, redshirt senior point guard Jayde Christopher leads the nation with 87 assists, and is second with 7.91 assists per game. Senior guard Riley Lupfer is second in the country with 43 3-pointers made, and third with 3.91 triples made per game.
A HODGINS IS STILL ON THE COURT
For the eighth-straight year, and for the final time, a member of the Hodgins family will be on the court for the Boise State-Eastern Washington matchup.
Senior Braydey Hodgins will face off against an Eagles squad that, for just the second time since the 2011-12 season, does not feature one of her older sisters, Hayley or Delaney.
Braydey and Delaney faced off in 2016-17 and 2017-18, with Braydey and the Broncos coming out victorious each time.
Delaney (2,120 points from 2015-18) and Hayley (1,865 points from 2013-16) rank first and second, respectively, on Eastern Washington's all-time scoring list.
BRAYDEY VS. THE EAGLES
Not only is Braydey Hodgins 3-0 against her sisters' alma mater, but she's been a major factor in a couple of the Bronco wins.
As a freshman, Braydey played just 10 minutes off the bench in the 67-64 Boise State win, but the following season (2017-18), she scored a team-high 14 points (all off the bench), hitting a pair of 3-pointers and going 6-for-6 from the line to seal a 61-57 Bronco win.
Last year, she again scored 14 points, hitting three from deep, and passing out five assists in Boise State's 67-55 victory.
HOMECOMING FOR LUPFER
Sunday's trip to Cheney will also serve as a homecoming for senior guard Riley Lupfer, a native of nearby Spokane.
As a prep at Lewis and Clark High School, Lupfer was named the Greater Spokane League Player of the Year as well as the AP of Washington All-State First Team. She helped lead the Tigers to sixth place at the state tournament as a senior.
Pending a postseason visit to the Spokane area, this Sunday's game will be the final homecoming of Lupfer's collegiate career.
WINNING IN THE TRENCHES
Bronco posts A'Shanti Coleman and Mallory McGwire more than held their own against a BYU post group that featured 6-foot-7 Sara Hamson and 6-3 Shalae Salmon.
Coleman and McGwire not only dominated on the offensive end, combining for 34 points on 68.4-percent shooting (13-for-19), but also shut down Hamson and Salmon on the defensive end. Coleman and McGwire held their counterparts to just 7-for-20 from the field (35.0 percent), and earned an 18-18 draw in the battle of the boards.
BRINGING THE OFFENSE INSIDE
Coleman and McGwire had one of their best combined games in the win over BYU, continuing strong recent runs from each.
After scoring a season-high 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting against BYU, Coleman, over the last three games, is shooting 71 percent (22-for-31) and averaging 16.0 points.
McGwire, meanwhile, has posted two double-doubles over the last three games, averaging 13.7 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 55.2 percent over that span.
LIEBERMAN AWARD CONSIDERATION?
Redshirt senior point guard Jayde Christopher may not have made the preseason watch list for the Nancy Lieberman Award, given annually to the nation's top point guard, but she's made a case to be added by the midseason point.
Christopher has racked up a national-best 87 assists, as well as 7.91 assists per game (second in the country behind only Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu), through Dec. 12. Over 11 games this season, Christopher has passed out at least seven assists in eight.
Her 10 assists in Dec. 4's win over New Mexico marked Christopher's third double digit-assist game this season. Nov. 24, at then-No. 8/9 Louisville, Christopher finished with 14 assists as the Broncos shot 61.4 percent.
