BOISE, Idaho - Junior nickel Kekaula Kaniho was named to the 2019 Division I Academic All-America Football Second Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Monday.
Kaniho is the 12th Bronco to be named a CoSIDA Academic All-American, and it is the 16th such honor for the Boise State football program.
The Kahuku, Hawaii, native boasts a 3.93 cumulative grade-point average in the classroom while working towards his major in health sciences. Kaniho is a two-time Academic All-Mountain West selection (2017-18), as well as a two-time recipient of the Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award (2018-19).
On the field, Kaniho earned his first selection to the All-Mountain West First Team in 2019 thanks to being the chaos-bringer of the Bronco secondary. Kaniho ranks second on the team in tackles (57), tackles-for-loss (11.0), and pass breakups (six), while adding two forced fumbles, an interception, and 3.0 sacks.
Boise State (12-1), the Mountain West Champion after Saturday's 31-10 victory over Hawai'i, will face Washington (7-5) at the Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl Saturday, Dec. 21, at 5:30 p.m. MT on ABC.
