Boise State posted a 22-stroke improvement from their second round score to third round score to close the Battle at the Rock
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Boise State women's golf team closed off the Battle at the Rock, the team's spring opener, in 12th place. The Broncos shot 914 (308-314-292, +50), posting a 22-stroke improvement from their second to third rounds.
Boise State's score of 292 was the fourth-lowest third-round score in the 15 team field.
"Today was obviously much better," head coach Nicole Bird said. "We were really able to adjust for the third round and had a ton of birdies today, and that helped us out a lot."
The second day of the tournament started with the remainder of the second that was halted on Monday, due to a two-hour frost delay at the start of the tournament.
"Yesterday we really struggled with our short game, which can often happen when we don't get to practice outside," Bird said. "Our tee shots were great, and we had some really positive things going on, but we just had too many big numbers due to wedges and putting. I think we just needed to knock the rust off a little and get back to competing. If we continue to improve like this over the season, we will be just fine."
Senior Tara Finigan led the Broncos with a score of 223 (75-78-70, +7) and finished in a tie for 21st place. She had six birdies in the third round to move 18 spots up the leaderboard.
Alejandra Lobelo ended the tournament in r 44th place with a score of 229 (78-77-74, +13). Lobelo also carded six birdies in the final round.
Valentine Lacaze shot 234 (80-79-75, +18) and finished in a tie for 59th. Nicole Suppelsa rounded out the scoring for the Bronocos with score of 236 (75-88-73, +20) in a tie for 67th.
Lexi Perry concluded the lineup for Broncos with a score of 240 (83-80-77, +24)
The Broncos will return to the course on February 22 in Rio Verde, Arizona at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invite.
