TWO-TIME DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

  • Boise State is the two-time defending Mountain West Conference Champion having won the last two titles, followed by San Diego State, Nevada and Wyoming, respectively each year.
  • The Broncos claimed four individual and four relay titles at last year's championships as they won with 1,250 points, 144.5 points over second-place SDSU.
  • Senior Abbey Sorensen returns in 2019 to defend her individual championships in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard backstroke.
  • The other two individual titles from 2018 belong to now graduated Emma Chard who won the 200 and 500-yard freestyle races.
  • All six members of Boise State's four relay winning races return in 2019: Sorensen, Cody Evans,  Emmie Jennings, Ally Kleinsorgen, Robin Pinger and Laura Williams.
  • The Blue and Orange returns 11 of the 13 All-Mountain West honorees from the 2018 championships ... to make all-conference a swimmer or diver must place in top eight, while relay teams must be in top-three.

TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE

  • Since it was established with the 2006-07 season, the Bronco swimming and diving program has wasted little time in creating a tradition of excellence when it comes to conference championships.
  • After a building period of three years under Boise State's first head coach Kristin Hill (fall 2006-spring 2015) where the Broncos finished eighth, seventh and sixth, respectively, in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) championships meet, the blue and orange has won six conference championships and not placed lower than second place in the last nine years.
  • Boise State's first five years were as members of the Western Athletic Conference. After placing sixth out eight teams in the 2009 (third season of competition) WAC Championships, the Broncos went on to win the next two titles in 2010 and 2011 to closeout their WAC membership.
  • The Broncos joined the Mountain West Conference for the 2011-12 season and proceeded to win the conference championship that spring giving the Blue and Orange three-straight titles spanning two leagues.
  • Since that inaugural season in the MW, Boise State has won the 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2018 MW Championships and placed second in 2013, 2015 and 2016.
  • No current member of the MW has won more championships than the Broncos four, which ranks second all-time behind Brigham Young's nine titles between 2000 and 2010.
  • Boise State is the only current league member to win back-to-back titles after last year's victory. It is one-of-two schools to ever accomplish that feat all-time in league history behind BYU's five straight from 2000-04 and four straight from 2007-10.

THE CHRISTINE MABILE ERA BEGINS

  • Christine Mabile returned to her alma mater over the summer and became the third head coach in the program's history, which is completing its 13th season in 2018-19.
  • Mabile is a 2010 alum of Boise State.
  • She did not swim for the Broncos as an undergraduate, instead she spent the four years as a volunteer assistant coach working with the team from the deck.
  • Mabile returned to Boise State after two years as an assistant at Missouri, preceded by five years as head coach at the College of Idaho.
  • Joining Mabile on her first coaching staff are Jordan Lieberman who was an assistant at Cornell, as well as Brandon Blaisdell who returns for his fourth season as the Bronco diving coach.

RELAY EXCELLENCE

  • Since winning their first conference title in 2010, the Broncos have excelled at relays where they have won 27 of the 45 relay championships at conference meets, including 13-of-15 in the last three years.
  • The Broncos won four of five relays in 2018 in the 200 and 400-yard freestyle and the 200 and 400-yard medley relays.
  • They have now won four relay titles in 2012, 2016 and 2018, as well as three titles in 2010 and two in 2015.
  • The Blue and Orange swept all five titles in 2017 — including the 800-yard freestyle — a feat accomplished once previously in 2011.
