Broncos Outrun San Jose State, 83-69

SAN JOSE -Â Boise State ran out to an 18-0 lead over San Jose State within the opening 4:54 Saturday and withstood a wild Spartan comeback attempt to claim the 83-69 victory at the Event Center.
A'Shanti Coleman and Braydey Hodgins scored eight point apiece in the third quarter as the Broncos (19-3, 10-1 MW), who fell behind by as many as six with 6:58 to go in the third quarter, closed the frame on a 22-6 run to take an 11-point lead into the fourth.
Coleman finished the game with with 20 points on 10-of-16 shooting, 12 of those points coming in the second half. Braydey Hodgins continued her recent run of form, hitting five 3-pointers and scoring a game-high 21 points while Marta Hermida also finished in double digits at 15.

Boise State opened 7-for-10 from the field, and got nine points from Marta Hermida and six from Braydey Hodgins over the game-opening run, but cooled off soon after. The Broncos went 1-for-5 with six turnovers over the final 5:06 of the opening frame, while San Jose State recovered from its 0-for-7 start. The Spartans went 6-for-8 including 3-for-5 from 3-point range to close the quarter, pulling to within five at 22-17.
San Jose State kept up the pace in the second, opening with a triple from Analyss Benally to get within four at 24-20. After Hodgins' layup got the Bronco lead out to seven at 29-22, the Spartans scored seven-straight to come all the way back and even it up at 29-29. The Spartans would battle to their first lead at 38-37 before Sofía Galerón's layup in the final minute gave the Broncos a 39-38 halftime lead.
Boise State found itself staring down a six-point hole quickly in the third quarter, as a 6-0 half-opening run from the Spartans and a Megan Anderson triple made it 47-41 near the midway point. But eight-straight Bronco points, with four coming from A'Shanti Coleman, got the Broncos back in front at 48-47.
The Spartans answered to go up 49-48, but the Broncos responded with a 16-4 finish to the quarter. Hodgins fueled the run with eight points in a 40-second span, putting the Broncos up 61-51 with her second triple of the stretch.
