Boise State's women's tennis team swept Whitman 7-0 Saturday morning in Boise
BOISE, Idaho (3/20/19) –Frankie Trella and Vanessa Timm served up two of the many Bronco wins to lead the women's tennis team in a 7-0 sweep against Whitman Saturday morning at Appleton Tennis Center.
In the team's first outdoor home match of the season, the doubles teams – and the sun – came out to play for the Blue and Orange as they won all three of the matches to take doubles point and the 1-0 advantage over the Blues going into singles.
In singles play, Trella got things going with one of her best performances of the season, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Whitman's Lorin Demuth on court six. Timm followed closely behind and put away her match against Anastasiya Redkina 6-1, 6-1 and the Broncos quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead and closed in on clinching the contest.
On court two, Wilhelmina Palmer was dialed in against the Blues' Mary Hill and didn't miss a beat as she went on to win 6-1, 6-0 and clinch the match for Boise State.
With the overall match having already been decided, freshman Emily Strande put on a dazzling performance to win 6-0, 6-1 and extend her team's lead to 5-0. Lilian Poling got in on the action at the No. 1 position by putting the Broncos one win away from a sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Andrea Gu.
At the No. 5 slot, Sydnie Binder put the icing on the cake as she won a tight second set to earn the 6-1, 6-4 victory and finish off a solid team performance.
This win puts the Broncos at 7-6 on the season. They will hit the road with a winning record as they travel to take on UTEP and New Mexico next week on April 5 and 7, respectively. The next home match for the Broncos will be on April 12 when they host Mountain West opponent Colorado State.
