Boise State's women's tennis team fell in a close contest against UTEP on Friday morning in El Paso
EL PASO, Texas (4/5/19) – Wilhelmina Palmer and Emily Strande each collected victories in singles play, but the Boise State women's tennis team came up just short against UTEP Friday afternoon in El Paso, dropping the match 4-3.
As has been the case for most of the season, the Bronco doubles teams put on strong performances. Frankie Trella and Vanessa Timm delivered a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 position in addition to Wiktoria Nosek and Strande's 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot. Palmer and Lilian Poling were leading their doubles match 5-3, but it was left unfinished after the Broncos clinched the doubles point and entered singles with the 1-0 overall lead.
Palmer put on a stellar display in her singles match on court two, where she defeated UTEP's Kathleen Percegona 6-1, 6-1 and extended the Bronco lead to 2-0. Emily Strande followed up with a 6-1, 6-1 win of her own on court five, taking down Milena Baigorria and extending the lead to 3-0 for the Broncos.
UTEP, however, would not go down quietly. The Miners won the next four singles matches to storm back and take away what appeared to be a Bronco win in the making.
Boise State now makes a quick turnaround as they head to Albuquerque, N.M. to face New Mexico on Sunday, April 7, at 11 a.m.
