Lamb homers twice as Boise State sets single-season home runs record
FRESNO, Calif. – Morgan Lamb gave the Boise State softball team life with two home runs on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Broncos dropped the series finale to Fresno State in a 5-4 loss.
Down 2-0, Lamb hit a solo home run to right field in the top of the fourth to pull the Broncos (34-14, 12-12 MW) back into the game. The home run broke up a no-hitter through 3.2 innings for Fresno State pitcher Hailey Dolcini.
The Bulldogs (36-18, 14-10 MW) added a run in the bottom of the fifth to regain their two-run lead. Boise State would mount a comeback in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs to take the lead for the first time on the weekend.
Karlee Johnson, who entered the game in the bottom of the second, got on base with a bunt single, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Kora Wade. Johnson would reach home on a RBI single from Rebekah Cervantes into left field to make it a one-run game.
With two outs in the inning, Lamb would hit her second home run of the game — her third of the weekend — to give Boise State a one-run lead. Her two home runs would give the Broncos 63 on the season to set the single-season program record.
Down to their final out of the inning, Fresno State would hit a two-run home run to re-take the lead, holding on for the 5-4 victory.
The loss drops Boise State to fifth in the conference standings to end the year.
