Broncos (35-15) blanked by fifth-seeded Florida (46-15) in winner's bracket game of Gainesville Regional
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Boise State was able to start the winner's bracket game of the Gainesville Regional with a highlight, but things would quickly unravel in an 8-0 loss to fifth-seeded Florida, Saturday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. The loss will move Boise State to an elimination game at 5 p.m. MT against the winner of Stanford-Boston University. That game will be broadcast on the Watch ESPN app.
Starting pitcher Gianna Mancha allowed a leadoff walk to start the game, but shortstop Rebekah Cervantes was able to turn a hard-hit groundball to Karlee Johnson at second and Alison Seng at first for a 6-4-3 double play on the next at-bat to give the Broncos some momentum. However, Florida's (46-15) offense would erupt for six runs, all with two outs, to capitalize on an additional five walks from Mancha over the remainder of the inning.Â
Boise State (35-15) would get a quality 4.1 innings of relief out of Veronica Lynch in the circle. Lynch was able to spread out six hits over her appearance, allowing only one earned run and a walk.
The Broncos were held hitless by the Gators — the first time the program has been no-hit since a loss to Weber State on Feb. 20, 2016. All-time, this is the eighth time in 11 seasons Boise State has been held hitless. Kora Wade was the lone Bronco to reach base, doing so on a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first inning.
