BOISE, Idaho – College Football #WatchListSZN got underway Monday as redshirt junior STUD Curtis Weaver was named to the Bednarik Award Watch List by the Maxwell Football Club.

Weaver is one of eight players from the Mountain West included on the watch list. The Bednarik Award is presented to the college defensive player of the year.

Weaver has already earned national recognition this offseason, being named a Preseason All-American by the Sporting News (Second Team) and Athlon Sports (Fourth Team). The Long Beach, Calif., native ranked second in the Mountain West and 20th in the FBS in sacks (9.5) last season, also finishing tied for third in the conference with 15.5 tackles-for-loss. Weaver posted five multi-TFL games in 2018, along with two multi-sack games, highlighted by a career-high 2.5 against Colorado State on Oct. 19.

Through just two seasons on The Blue, Weaver has already racked up 20.5 sacks, leaving him tied for sixth all-time in Boise State history with Shea McClellin (2008-11). Weaver needs just three more sacks to take sole possession of third place on the list.

Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced Oct. 29, with the winner announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.

The Broncos are coming off another 10-win season, the program's 16th since joining what is now known as the Football Bowl Subdivision in 1996. The total is the second-highest in the country during that time (Ohio State, 18). Boise State also concluded the 2018 season ranked in both the Associated Press (No. 23) and Coaches (No. 24) Polls.

Boise State is the winningest team in the country since 2000 (207-41; .835), and the Broncos' record at home since 2000 is also the nation's best (113-9; .926).
