Walley Leads Broncos Past Austin Peay in Four

Senior Janell Walley recorded a double-double on a career-high 23 kills with 10 digs to lead Broncos to win.
COLUMBIA, Mo. - Janell Walley led Boise State Friday night with a double-double on a career-high 23 kills and 10 digs as the Broncos defeated the Austin Peay Governors 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 25-23) on the opening day of the Mizzou Invite. The win extended Boise State's win streak to five as it improved to 5-2 overall.
"It wasn't pretty, but we got a hard fought win today versus a scrappy Austin Peay team," said Boise State head coach Shawn Garus. "Walley was great offensively and Wissinger came up big to push us over the top. The team is excited for the opportunity ahead versus Northern Iowa tomorrow, it is going to be a great gauge of where were at."
The match was tight most of the way between Boise State and Austin Peay as they combined for 25 ties and 12 lead changes throughout the contest.Â
The Broncos hit the ball well most of the day, but let up a little in the last two sets. They finished the match hitting 23.3 percent while holding Austin Peay to 14.4 percent. The Blue and Orange hit 35 and 34 percent in sets one and two, respectively, then cooled off down the stretch.
Boise State's blocking also played a key factor in the win with 13 compared to Austin Peay's seven.
Walley came through for the Broncos when they needed her most. In the first set with the scored tied at 22, the senior started a 3-0 Boise State run with a kill and ended it with a service ace to win the set. She finished hitting a team-best 52.8 percent for the 23 kills with one service ace and one block solo for a team-high 25.0 points in the match.
Shae Duffy scored the final two points of the fourth set to clinch the match for Boise State. She ended the contest with nine kills, six digs and one block.
Alyssa Wissinger led the Broncos blocking effort tallying a team-high six versus the Governors to go with 10 kills.Â
Danielle Boss recorded another double-double on the year dishing out 43 assists to go with 14 digs — both team highs — she also added four kills and four blocks. Â
Next up for Boise State is an encounter with the Northern Iowa (UNI) Panthers out of the Missouri Valley Conference at 11 a.m. (MT) on Saturday.
