Broncos Defeat Rebels, Remain Undefeated in Conference Play

9/29/2019 5:03:00 PM | Women's Soccer

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's soccer recorded two goals on Sunday at Boas Soccer Complex to secure the win over UNLV. The Broncos have now won six straight and are 10-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

"We are operating at a really high level right now," said head coach Jim Thomas. "This group is helping each other both ways. That's how we work, I help them, they help me, we do better and I think you saw that in the second half today."

Boise State keeper Sydney Smith recorded her seventh clean sheet on the year en route to her 10th win. She recorded three saves for the Broncos in the victory.

Despite outshooting the Rebels 12-2 in the first half, the match was still scoreless at the intermission. However, junior Aubree Chatterton changed that in the 55th minute. A shot from the left side fed to her by senior McKenna Kynett, found its way past the Rebel keeper to put the Broncos ahead. For Chatterton that was her fifth goal of the season, while for Kynett it was her first assist of the year.

"It really comes down to us, talking together and getting each other back on the same page, knowing what we do best and then applying that on the field," said Chatterton.

After taking a pass from Kynett, senior Raimee Sherle would tack on an insurance goal in the 81st minute to put the game out of reach. Sherle now has a team-high 9 goals on the season.

"We are getting quality opportunities," explained Thomas. "I trust my girls and I know they are going to take those opportunities, so we will keep rewarding them and give them the confidence to take the shot."

"We are just going to stick to what we do," Chatterton said. "We have been all about momentum this year, we are 2-0 so we just have to keep progressing."

The Blue and Orange now prepare for their first two-game road trip of the year as they head to California for a pair of matches. The first is a night match against last year's Mountain West tournament champion San Jose State, Thursday, Oct. 3 at 8 MT. On Sunday, the Broncos will face off against Fresno State at 1 p.m. MT.
