AURORA, Ore. -Â Boise State women's golf was plagued by big numbers in Monday afternoon's second round at the Rose City Collegiate, dropping from sixth to ninth at 45-over (309-312=621).
Tuesday's final round will begin with the opening groups teeing off at 8:30 a.m. MT from holes 1 and 10.
After sitting in sixth on the team leaderboard at 21-over following the morning's opening round, the Broncos struggled to card birdies in the afternoon, as the quintet of Valentine Lacaze, Morgan Lashley, Cora Mickelsen, Lexi Perry, and Nicole Suppelsa combined for just five birdies.
Mickelsen paced the fivesome at 10-over after Monday's first two rounds, firing matching rounds of 77 and ending the day in a tie for 31st. The sophomore was par-or-better on 15 of her 18 holes in the second round, carding a birdie on her penultimate hole at the Par-4 No. 4, but a triple-bogey and a double-bogey pushed her back to 5-over for the round.
Suppelsa opened strong, firing a 3-over 75 in the opening round and entering the afternoon session tied for 10th, just five strokes off the pace. However, a second-round 81 dropped her to 12-over (75-81=156), tied for 37th.
"We just had too many big numbers today, and that made it very hard to make up any strokes during the second round," said Boise State head coach Nicole Bird. "Tomorrow's a new day. We'll aim to limit what cost us strokes today, and end the tournament with a good round."
Junior Lexi Perry birdied her final hole of the day to climb into a tie for 39th at 13-over (79-78=157), while senior Valentine Lacaze rebounded from an opening-round 84 to shoot a team-low 76 in the afternoon, finishing the day at 16-over (84-76=160). Junior Morgan Lashley sits two strokes back of Lacaze after rounds of 78-84=162 (+18).
Two more Broncos competed as individuals Monday, led by freshman Elena Pany (79-80=159), who is tied for 47th, and redshirt senior Ivane Helias (81-80=161).
Cal State Fullerton leads the team competition after Monday's action, sitting at 9-over (289-296=585), nine strokes clear of the field. On the individual leaderboard, Eastern Washington's Madalyn Ardueser has set the pace at 5-under (70-69=139) heading into the final round.
