
Jade Loville Leads Broncos to Win in Mountain West Opener

BOISE, Idaho – Jade Loville scored a career-high 31 points and Boise State edged San Jose State 77-75 in the Broncos' Mountain West opener, Thursday.
Loville's layup with 3:50 remaining broke a 68-68 tie and gave the Broncos (4-0, 1-0 MW) the lead for good. Her conventional 3-point play with 1:37 remaining pushed Boise State's advantage to 76-72.
The Spartans (2-1, 1-1 MW) made 1 of 2 at the foul line on their next trip. After Loville missed a jumper, each team committed a turnover. Cydni Lewis capped her team-high 20-point effort with a putback to draw San Jose State within 76-75.
Mary Kay Naro made 1 of 2 at the line with 19.3 seconds remaining to make the score 77-75. On the Spartans' next possession, Abby Muse rebounded a miss, her 18th board of the game, and was fouled.
Muse missed both free throw attempts and San Jose State had one more possession. Tyra Whitehead's baseline jumper at the buzzer was blocked by Elodie Lalotte.
The win was the 12th-consecutive for the Broncos and their 11th-straight in a conference opener.
Muse recorded her first double-double with 14 points and the season/career-high 18 rebounds. Her rebounds are tied for ninth-most on Boise State's single-game list.
Naro and Raigan Reed each had 10 point to give the Broncos four players in double-figure scoring for the fourth time in four games this season. Naro added eight assists.
Boise State led by as many as seven in the first quarter before the Spartans stormed back to take a 20-19 lead at the end of the stanza. The lead changed hands five times in the second quarter before Loville scored six points to spark an 11-4 run that gave the Broncos a 36-30 halftime lead.
The Spartans opened the second half on a 7-0 run to grab a 37-36 advantage. Boise State answered with a putback by Muse and a 3-pointer by Reed to surge back in front 41-37. San Jose responded with a 9-2 run to regain the lead and was in front 55-53 heading into the fourth quarter.
Loville and Naro each contributed a 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions to put Boise State on top 61-59 with 8:25 remaining in the game. The Broncos led by as many as five before the Spartans tied the game 68-68.
