GARDEN CITY, Idaho – Michael Hicks was 5-for-8 with a double, home run and six RBI to lead Boise State to a doubleheader sweep of Seattle U, Saturday.
The Broncos (6-4) bounced back from their first home loss to post 9-2 and 11-9 victories over the Redhawks (6-8).
In the opener, Boise State scored six times over the first-three innings to build a 6-1 lead. Four of the runs came off Seattle U starter Ethan Christianson (1-3) and in support of Hunter Omlid (2-1).
Omlid worked five innings, struck out five and gave up two runs, one earned. Wesley Harper pitched the final-three frames to pick up his first save.
In the nightcap, a seven-inning affair, Boise State came from behind twice. Trailing 1-0, Matthew Farman hit a towering home run down the right field line in the bottom of the first to pull the Broncos even.
Boise State erased a 3-2 deficit with a seven-run third. Four walks, the last to Farman, forced in the tying run. Hicks followed with a two-run single to give the Broncos the lead for good at 5-3. After Torin Montgomery walked to load the bases, Joe Yorke was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Grant Kerry knocked in two more with a single and Yorke capped the rally when he rumbled home on a passed ball.
Montgomery added his team-leading third home run of the season in the fifth to make the score 10-5. The Redhawks closed within 10-9, but Hicks added an insurance run with an RBI-single in the sixth.
Gavin Gorrell (1-0) pitched five innings to earn the win.
