#FreshmanFriday continues with the second entry into the seven-part series, putting the spotlight on forward Alexis Mark (Chatsworth, Calif. / Sierra Canyon HS).
Boise State graduates six seniors in 2019-20 who made up one of the most decorated classes in program history. Along with the seven returning Broncos, Boise State will welcome a decorated seven-woman freshman class to the City of Trees in 2020-21. The motivated, hungry group boasts numerous all-state and all-section honors, league MVP awards, and team titles at the state, section, and league levels.
Mark, a 6-foot-2 forward, began her successful run at Sierra Canyon High School halfway through the 2017-18 campaign, when she became eligible after sitting out due to transfer rules. That season, Mark helped the Trailblazers to a 23-9 record, and, the following season (2018-19), paced Sierra Canyon to a 33-1 record and the CIF Open Division State Championship.
Playing for head coach Alicia Komaki, Mark was part of a Sierra Canyon team that was named the Cal-Hi Sports State 2018-19 Team of the Year.
A big part of Marks' game, which helped the Trailblazers to another CIF Open Division tournament in 2019-20, was her defense. The Chatsworth, Calif., native's averages of nearly 12 points and over eight rebounds a game are outshined by her sterling reputation around the country as a defender. Sierra Canyon's national schedule in 2019-20 helped sharpen Marks' defensive intensity, as she welcomed the challenge of defending some of the nation's top prep prospects.
This past season, she was named to the All-Gold Coast League, as the Trailblazers collected yet another league title.
"Alexis is very athletic, very bright, and has played at a very high level at Sierra Canyon," Presnell said back on signing day in November. "She's going to have a lot of fans here at Boise State."
