Mid-April finds #FreshmanFriday entering its third week, and it continues as we highlight forward Abby Muse (Brentwood, Calif. / Heritage HS).
Boise State graduates six seniors in 2019-20 who made up one of the most decorated classes in program history. Along with the seven returning Broncos, Boise State will welcome a decorated seven-woman freshman class to the City of Trees in 2020-21. The motivated, hungry group boasts numerous all-state and all-section honors, league MVP awards, and team titles at the state, section, and league levels.
Muse comes to Boise as a four-star recruit, ranked 92nd in the espnW 100 Hoopgurlz rankings for the Class of 2020. A 6-foot-3 forward, Muse was named to the All-Bay Area Preps HQ Team and the Bay Valley Athletic League MVP this past season, leading Heritage to a 22-7 mark, perfect 10-0 BVAL record, and to the second round of the CIF Division I State Tournament.
She put together one of her best prep campaigns in 2019-20, averaging a double-double of 14.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Her production wasn't limited to the offensive end, either, as Muse blocked 2.9 shots and made 2.1 steals a game. She was selected to play for the Bay Area All-Stars at the All NorCal Games scheduled for April 5, before the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Brentwood, Calif., native was a four-time All-BVAL selection during her career, including first-team nods her junior and senior seasons. Additionally, she was named All-Bay Area honorable mention by the Bay Area News Group in 2018-19 after leading Heritage to the NCS Open Division championship game for the third-straight season.
Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell is looking forward to Muse joining the Broncos, giving praise to the forward during November's signing period.
"Abby is very long, very athletic, a top-100 recruit. She's a shot blocker who can play multiple positions in the post area, and has a really high upside," Presnell said. "She comes from a basketball family; both of her parents played at UC Santa Barbara."
