#FreshmanFriday continues into May, as today we put the spotlight on guard Mary Kay Naro (Beaverton, Ore. / Beaverton HS).
Boise State graduates six seniors in 2019-20 who made up one of the most decorated classes in program history. Along with the seven returning Broncos, Boise State will welcome a decorated seven-woman freshman class to the City of Trees in 2020-21. The motivated, hungry group boasts numerous all-state and all-section honors, league MVP awards, and team titles at the state, section, and league levels.
Naro, a 5-foot-11 point guard, helped lead Beaverton to a 23-4 record and to the Oregon 6A semifinals for the second-straight season in 2019-20. The top-seeded Beavers had the program's first state title in their sights until the tournament was canceled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Naro earned a spot on the 6A All-State Second Team, and was named to the All-Metro League Team for the third-straight season, as the Beavers won the league title with a perfect 12-0 mark. Running the point, Naro averaged 9.5 points a game to go with six assists, 5.5 rebounds, and three steals per contest.
As a junior, Naro averaged over six assists with eight points a game as Beaverton reached the state semifinals.
"Mary Kay's a long, pure point guard. She comes from a great basketball family, and has great skills, she's a good passer, and I look forward to her continuing her point guard play here at Boise State," Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell said during November's signing period.
Basketball runs in the family's blood, as Naro is coached by her parents, Beaverton head coach Kathy Adelman Naro and assistant coach John Naro, and she is the granddaughter of former NBA player and head coach Rick Adelman.
