BOISE, Idaho – Boise State football head coach Andy Avalos continued to build his staff with the announcement of three additions, Thursday. Da'Vell Winters joins the Broncos as the chief of staff, while Brandon Pietrzyk and Lucas White are new assistant strength and conditioning coaches.
"Bronco Nation is going to love these guys," Avalos said. "Da'Vell is an amazing human being, and has the ability to connect with everyone that touches this program, from student-athletes to coaches and staff. He cares about people, he cares about this program and he cares about this community.
"The two additions in our weight room, Brandon and Lucas, just like Reid Kagy, they'll play a major role in developing our student-athletes both on the field and off. They're blue-collar guys, and our guys are going to love working and growing with them."
Winters comes to Boise after spending three years at Oregon as the assistant director of player personnel/player development. With the Ducks, his duties included assisting signees with their transition into Oregon and being a liaison between football and academics, alumni, compliance, parents, student-athlete development and therapist/medical support.
In 2015, Winters was the defensive quality coach/safeties coach at Wofford. He became the assistant director of player personnel at Oregon in 2016 and held the same position at Pittsburgh in 2017. Winters also spent a year as a personnel intern with the Miami Dolphins while serving his second stint with the Ducks.
Winters earned his bachelor's and master's in business administration from Ashland (Ohio).
Pietrzyk spent the last year at Oregon as strength and conditioning quality control for football. Prior to his time with the Ducks, he worked four years as the athletic director at Glenview College Prep in Phoenix, Ariz. In addition to his duties as AD, he served as an assistant principal, taught physical education and science and coached boys basketball, football and softball.
He is a 2011 graduate of Buena Vista (Iowa), earning his bachelor's degree in exercise science – human performance.
White is familiar with the Mountain West having spent the last nine months as an assistant athletic performance coach at San Jose State.
He began his collegiate career as a strength and condition intern with Mississippi State football in 2016. From 2016-18, White was a sports performance coaching assistant at New Mexico State before taking a graduate assistant strength and condition coach position at Indiana State.
White earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Southern Indiana in 2013 and is expected to complete his master's in physical education coaching from Indiana State in May.
