GAME ONE RECAP: Boise State men's basketball opened its series against Air Force with a 78-59 victory Wednesday, at ExtraMile Arena. The Broncos scored 35 points off the bench, including 15 from Marcus Shaver, Jr. and 12 from Max Rice. Shaver and Rice combined to shoot 7-for-8 from three-point range. Air Force was within two as the first half wound down, but Rice buried a pair of three-pointers in the closing minute and the Broncos took a 39-31 lead into the locker room. Derrick Alston, Jr. paced the Broncos with 16 points and added seven rebounds. Alston's ferocious breakaway dunk through contact sparked a 23-5 run midway through the second half and put the game out of reach.
NET POSITIVE: Boise State currently ranks No. 12 in the NCAA NET Rankings. The rating system made its season debut Monday, with the Broncos checking in at No. 13. Two more Mountain West schools rank in the top 50, with San Diego State at 32 and Colorado State at 41. Houston, the only team to defeat the Broncos this season, is ranked No. 5.
NINE STRAIGHT: Boise State has won its last nine games, the eighth-longest active winning streak in the nation. The Broncos are riding their first nine-game winning streak since the 2015-16 season. That team went on to tie the school record with a 10-game winning streak, previously accomplished in 1987-88.
FIVE FOR FIVE: Boise State is 5-0 in conference play for the second time in program history and the first since 1987-88. That team started Big Sky play with seven consecutive wins. The Broncos had reached 4-0 in league play three previous times under Leon Rice (2010-11, 2015-16, 2016-17). Each of those teams went on to finish in the top three of the league standings.
