Broncos fall in three to San Diego State

10/14/2021 9:16:00 PM | Women's Volleyball

BOISE, Idaho - Boise State's volleyball team had no answer for San Diego State's Victoria Sullivan who recorded 22 kills as she led the Aztecs to a road sweep over the Broncos on Thursday night in Bronco Gym. Lauren Ohlinger led the Broncos with team-high eight kills on a night that saw Boise State hit a solid .337 percent as a team; unfortunately, San Diego State hit .400 percent.

The loss was the second straight for the Blue and Orange who moved to 14-5 overall and 3-4 in Mountain West Conference play with an encounter versus league-leading UNLV on the horizon for Saturday in Boise.

Boise State opened the match on a 4-0 run and led 13-8 when the Aztecs rallied with a 7-0 run to go up 15-13. The Broncos battled back and led 23-22 before SDSU rolled off a quick 3-0 run to surprise Boise State by winning the set.

The Broncos never really recovered after that initial opening set loss. The Aztecs came out fired up in the final two sets taking early leads in both. Boise State led only once in the final two periods as San Diego State handed the Broncos a 25-23, 25-20, 25-18 defeat at home.

Ohlinger finished the match with 11 points on eight kills and a team-best three service aces, she added four digs as well.

Jessica Donahue followed by hitting .455 percent but tallied only six kills on 11 attacks. The senior added four block assists to finish with eight points.

Alyssa Wissinger added five kills and one block assist, while Kayly Pau tallied four kills and three block assists.

Danielle Boss distributed 24 assists to go with four kills, three digs and two block assists.
