USAFA, Colo. – Boise State women's soccer came up short on the road against Air Force Sunday, losing 2-1 in overtime at Cadet Field.
Genevieve Crenshaw made four saves in the first half to keep the match scoreless at the break, but Air Force opened the scoring early into the second as a ball that was meant to be a cross deflected off of a Boise State defender and lofted over the head of the keeper for a goal in the 62nd minute.
Boise State responded well, however, as Ashly Berge carried the ball down the field and delivered a quality cross that was finished well by Keile Hansen in the 70th minute. Hansen now leads the team in goals with four this season. The Broncos made a goalkeeping change after the goal, subbing on goalkeeper Sydney Smith for Crenshaw in the 70th minute.
As the match approached full time, Boise State's attack came alive to create several good chances, but all were denied and the match headed to overtime.
In the extra period Boise State opened with another series of attacks, including one by Carly Cross that missed wide by a few inches in the 95th minute. Then in the 97th minute Air Force's Faith Lee came through in the box and scored the deciding goal.
The match was relatively even statistically, with Boise State leading in shots (17-16) and saves (5-4), while Air Force led in shots on goal (7-5). Each team earned 6 corners on the day.
The Broncos fall to 8-6-2 overall and 2-4-2 in Mountain West play. This match was the last conference tilt on the road for the Broncos who return to Boise holding eight points with three matches left to play.
