BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's soccer team picked up a much-needed win Thursday evening, beating Wyoming 3-1 at Boas Soccer Complex.
The Broncos shot out of the gate to start the game, scoring two goals in the first five minutes to take control of the match. In the second minute, Keile Hansen gathered a ball in the box and put it through for her team-best fifth goal of the season. A Wyoming foul just minutes later put Morgan Stone on the penalty spot, who lasered a shot that deflected off of the post and into the back of the net.
The Cowgirls regained their footing in the first half and began to hold some possession. In the 27th minute Wyoming earned a penalty kick of its own, and Jamie Tatum would deliver to prevent the first-half shutout.
The second half was a back-and-forth affair with each team finding looks at the goal. In the 59th minute Aubree Chatterton was able to score and push the lead 3-1 and give her team some breathing room. Chatterton's goal was the 16th of her career, moving her up to a tie for eighth in program history.
The Broncos held off the Cowgirls for the remainder of the match, picking up three much-needed points in a tightly contested Mountain West race. Boise State now moves past Wyoming in the conference standings, and at the same time keeps alive the hope of qualifying for a spot in the MW Championship tournament.
Up next for the Broncos is a match against Colorado State, Sunday, Oct. 24 at Boas Soccer Complex. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m.
