WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State (9-6-3/3-4-3 MW) is home for the final regular season match of the year as it hosts Utah State (12-4-3/5-3-2) Thursday afternoon at Boas Soccer Complex. The match will serve as senior day for six Broncos: Aubree Chatterton, Keile Hansen, Julia Lewis, Kennedi Paul, Kiara Simpson and Sydney Smith.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: The Broncos hosted two matches against Wyoming and Colorado State, earning four important points to keep them alive in the MW standings. In Thursday's match against the Cowgirls, Boise State scored two goals in the first five minutes en-route to a 3-1 victory. Sunday's match against the Rams saw a gritty performance as both sides battled it out in the downpour, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Â
NOT DONE YET: Boise State no longer controls its own destiny, but the Broncos are still alive in the chase for the sixth and final MW Championship qualifying spot. Thursday's match against Utah State is a must-win affair for the Blue and Orange, and they will also need a loss or draw from San Jose State against Fresno State and a UNLV loss to Nevada. Should all three results fall their way, the Broncos will find themselves in next week's tournament.
Â
SCOUTING THE AGGIES: Utah State rolls into Boise having already clinched its spot in the Mountain West Championship. First-year head coach Manny Martins has done a fine job thus far, leading his team to a 12-4-3 record and earning 17 points in league play.
Â
The Aggies sport a diverse attack, with three players having scored six goals this season. One of those scoring threats - senior Ashley Cardozo - facilitates a majority of the offense, tallying a MW-best 10 assists. Utah State's offense as a whole shares the ball well, leading the conference in assists with 32.
Â
Utah State boasts an impressive defense that leads the MW in goals against average with a mark of 0.84. Goalkeeper Diera Walton has been outstanding this season, starting all 19 matches and saving 92 shots on the year, the most in the conference by 32. Walton is also tied for the league lead in shutouts with six.
Â
Utah State has a firm hold on the all-time series, 12-5-4, but only leads 3-2-2 since Boise State joined the MW in 2013.
Â
WHAT TO WATCH FOR: Thursday's matchup will bring together the top two defenses in the MW, with each team giving up less than a goal per game on average this season.
Â
The Bronco offense has performed much better as of late, averaging two goals over its last four matches.
