BOISE, Idaho – Justina King scored a game-high 16 points and visiting Long Beach State defeated Boise State 61-38 in the Broncos' season opener Saturday at ExtraMile Arena.

Ma'Qhi Berry added 14 points for the Beach while Elodie Lalotte led the Broncos with 11 points and Abby Muse contributed 10.

"We struggled on the perimeter," Boise State Head Coach Gordy Presnell said. "We've to execute better. In the beginning we were able to get the ball inside. Our guards have to become confident shooters and passers."

The Broncos made six of their first nine shots with Lalotte and Muse combining for 10 points in the first quarter. When Rachel Boers scored on a fast break with 1:34 left in the opening period, Boise State led 12-10, but Long Beach State scored the next four points to lead 14-12 after 10 minutes.

The Beach increased its lead to 27-19 at intermission behind stingy defense that held the Broncos to two field goals in the second quarter.

Trailing 31-21, Boise State went on a 9-2 run thanks to five points from Lalotte and four from Mary Kay Naro. A pair of free throws by Naro at the 4:19 capped the run and pulled the Broncos within 33-30.

From there, Long Beach State outscored Boise State 28-8 as the Broncos went 3-for-16 from the field.

The Broncos are home again Monday to host Oregon Tech at 6:30 p.m.
