BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics is launching Broncos United, an internal initiative that focuses on the investment in our most important asset - our people, director of athletics Jeramiah Dickey announced Thursday.
The initiative keys on six areas, combining to create a holistic environment of supporting student-athletes, coaches and staff. The six components include physical health and wellness, mental health and wellness, personal growth and development, professional development, community and equality/belonging.
Broncos United focuses equally on student-athletes and staff, and is designed to be used as a roadmap to guide us as we evolve and grow as individuals and as a department. The interconnectedness of the circles (see attached graphic) is purposeful, because just as no area stands alone, neither should any person.
Each of the six areas has programming underway:
Physical Health and Wellness
Bronco Athletics has hired a full-time registered sports dietician.
Mental Health and Wellness
Bronco Athletics provided suicide prevention training for student-athletes, coaches and staff.
Personal Growth and Development
Bronco Athletics launched a series on life after sport for senior student-athletes.
Professional Development
Members of the Bronco Athletics staff participated in the Women Leaders in Collegiate Sports summit.
Community
Bronco Athletics organized and hosted the inaugural #BroncosGiveBack event, with more than 100 student-athletes, coaches and staff joining forces to rake leaves for community members.
Equality/Belonging
Bronco Athletics launched a podcast series entitled My Voice, My Story, and established a committee made up of student-athletes, coaches and staff.
Each of the six areas will provide continued opportunity for programming as the department increases its focus on supporting its most valuable asset – its people.
