Boise State Splits on Friday at Long Beach

Broncos fell 4-1 to No. 18 Long Beach State, then regrouped to beat Utah 5-0.
LONG BEACH, Calif. - Boise State beach volleyball opened its trip to California with a split on Friday in Long Beach, Calif., falling 4-1 to No. 18 Long Beach State before regrouping to down the Utah Utes 5-0. The freshman duo of Rorianna Chartier and Kaylee Mejia led the Broncos on the day winning both of their matches at the No. 3 position.
The split moved Boise State to 3-3 overall with three more matches scheduled for the weekend. They will play at CSUN (Cal State Northridge) on Saturday, then face No. 15 Arizona and No. 5 Cal Poly, respectively, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., on Sunday.
Chartier and Mejia were the lone Boise State pair to win their match versus The Beach rallying from one set down to defeat Kenzie Holtz and Makenzie Griffin 17-21, 21-15, 15-11.
Katie Martin and Land also rallied from a set down to force their contest into a decisive third period, but came up on the short end of a 15-21, 21-16, 15-11 to Alice Pratesi and Skyler Germann.
Boise State's roll started at the No. 4 and 5 pairs. Land and Katie Martin earned the first victory versus the Utes when they downed Joana Mondragon and Macy Rideout 21-3, 21-13 on court four. Not long after, Kylee Johnson and Yasmin Tan won at the fifth position beating Hannah Stahle and Kaiya Liwanag in two sets as well 21-14, 21-8.
The No. 2 pair clinched the match for the Blue and Orange when Joey Benson and Sedona Hansen dispatched Grace Andrews and Keana Smalls 21-18, 21-15.
The threes were the next to finish as Chartier and Mejia put away Olivia Teerlink and Camille Lee 21-12, 21-14 to go undefeated on the day.
The final contest was the No. 1 pairs where the Broncos' Erin Martin and Evi Wilson cruised to a 21-7, 21-17 win over Sage Patchell and Marissa Koch to complete the sweep.
