
Boise State Falls to No. 15 Arizona, Then Beats Stephen F. Austin

Broncos finish the Cactus Classic going 2-2 to open the season.
TUCSON, Ariz. - Boise State beach volleyball split a pair of matches at the Cactus Classic on Sunday falling 5-0 at 15th-ranked Arizona, then regrouped to down Stephen F. Austin 4-1. The Broncos went 2-2 on the opening weekend of the season.
Boise State will be back in action next weekend when the team travels to play at the Corban AVCA Pairs Tournament in Salem, Ore.
The Broncos were led by the No. 1, 3 and 5 pairs who all took their matches to third sets. On court one, Boise State's Erin Martin and Evi Wilson won their first set 24-22, then fell in the last two 21-6 and 15-8.
The No. 3 pair of freshmen Kaylee Mejia and Rori Chartier rallied from a set down to force their match to the decisive third frame before getting edged out 21-16, 18-21, 15-11.
The fifth pair of Ellie McDonald and Kylee Johnson also rallied from a set down to take the contest into three sets, eventually falling in extra points during the final period 21-14, 16-21, 17-15.
McDonald and Johnson were the first off the court playing at the No. 5 position. The Boise State duo rolled past their opponents 21-8, 21-8 to finish the weekend at 2-2 overall.
After SFA had tied the team score at 1-1, Boise State's Katie Martin and Sierra Land put the Broncos back in the lead at 2-1 when they dispatched their opponents in straight sets 23-21, 21-7 at No. 4 pair. The freshmen tandem also finished the Cactus Classic at 2-2.
The freshmen tandem of Mejia and Chartier clinched the victory for the Blue and Orange with a two set 21-17, 21-11 win on court three. The win made it 3-1 Broncos with one contest left and improved the duo to a 2-2 weekend record.
On court one, Boise State's Erin Martin and Wilson claimed a three-set victory from Stephen F. Austin's Corin Evans and Jordan Jaimes 21-15, 19-21, 15-7. Martin and Wilson completed opening weekend at .500 going 2-2.
