Broncos Fall to Aztecs

SAN DIEGO – Boise State soccer dropped a scrappy 3-1 loss to San Diego State, Sunday at the SDSU Sports Deck. The Broncos finished the road trip 0-1-1.
"Obviously, the goal is to win every game that we play in," said head coach Jim Thomas. "So we're obviously disappointed in coming back with only one point out of a potential six, but also at this juncture for us its a process to rebuilding our squad and teaching along the way. That process is an unpredictable one so we're thankful for the opportunity to learn in real time against real opponents and I think the things that we learn from that are going to be immeasurable."
Boise State trailed at the half because of an own goal in the 43rd minute that just made it over the reach of Bronco goalkeeper Sydney Smith.
True freshman Mariah Albin scored Boise State's first goal of the season off an assist by Grace Pekovich in the 69th minute to bring the Broncos within one. However, a third goal in the 77th minute by the Aztecs sealed the match.
The Broncos paced the Aztecs (2-0-0, 2-0-0 MW) in shots on goal at five but overall were outshot 17-12.
Boise State had multiple chances in the final minutes of the game but were unable to get any to find the back of the net.
"We'll get back to it on Tuesday, start presenting things in video and get back out onto the park and work on the things that we found. We won't lose track of the goal. The goal is to keep winning games as we're learning," explained Thomas.
The Broncos will return home to Boise before making a trip to Reno, Nev., to face the Nevada Wolf Pack, Saturday, March 13.
