BANDON, Ore. – Led by Hugo Townsend, Boise State finished fourth at the Bandon Dunes Championship, Tuesday.

Townsend carded a 4-under 67 in the final round, the best score of the day, and finished tied for second at 5-under, 208 in the 54-hole event.

The Broncos placed in the top five for the second-straight tournament to open the season. It is the first time since 2017-18, Boise State has opened with back-to-back top-five efforts.

The tie for second is the best finish in Townsend's career, and his third-career top 10 as a member of the Blue and Orange. He made a birdie and an eagle on his final-two holes of the tournament.

"Hugo played great all day," Bronco head coach Dan Potter said. "His game is at a place where he should be in the mix a lot, especially at a course like this where he is familiar. It is a place that requires a lot more skill that some places we play at that is right up his alley."

Joe Neuheisel tied for 10th at 2-under (72-68-71, 211) to earn his first-career top 10. His 3-under 68 in the second round was a career best.

"Joe Neuheisel had three good rounds," Potter said. "He has continued to get better and he is combining his skill set with a competitive spirit that makes him capable of producing these type of results."

San Francisco, ranked 32nd nationally, won the 14-team event at 16-under. Utah and Oregon tied for second, one stroke ahead of the Broncos.

The Broncos bested Mountain West rival Fresno State (+11) as well as No 23 Stanford (+11), Oregon State (+16) and Washington State (+4) from the Pac-12. Boise State has been the best Mountain West school in each of the first-two events and has placed ahead of five Pac-12 opponents this season.

Skyler Eubank tied for 28th at 6-over (71-72-76, 219) and Josh Gliege tied for 58th at 12-over (74-77-74, 225). Brian Humphreys was a stroke behind Gliege (78-72-76, 226) and tied for 62nd.

Boise State returns to action, March 22-23 at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore.
