The Boise State women's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss to undefeated San Jose State Saturday morning in Logan, Utah.

LOGAN, Utah – The Boise State women's tennis team came up short Saturday as they dropped a conference match to undefeated San Jose State 4-1 in Logan, Utah.

"The match out there was a super tight battle," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "It came down to a couple of matches that unfortunately didn't go our way. Our team competed really hard and are going to learn a lot from this to help them finish out the Mountain West season and beyond."

The doubles point came down to the wire as MW-leading San Jose State took the match on court one while Pauline Ernstberger and Holly Stewart won on court two for the Broncos. On court three Ana Conde Vendrell and Vanessa Timm were edged by the Spartans' duo of Rozalina Youseva and Raq Villan Pereira in a tiebreaker 7-6(2) to give the Spartans the early 1-0 advantage.

San Jose State continued its roll into singles, winning on court three in two sets to go up 2-0 on Boise State. Nicole Discenza was able to keep the Broncos in the match with a straight-set win on court six over Jovana Babic to bring the score to 2-1.

However, the Spartans continued to put their foot on the gas, winning on court one in straight-set fashion to put themselves in position to clinch the match. Shauna Heffernan battled it out on court five, but in the end fell to Villan Pereira 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, ending the day for the Blue and Orange.

The Broncos move to 4-2 in conference play and 10-4 overall. Up next the team will travel to Fresno, Calif., for two MW matches against Nevada (April 17) and Fresno State (April 18).

"There isn't a group that I would rather go to battle with than the one we have," said Roghaar. "They're hungry to improve and move forward in great ways."
