PROVO, Utah – Boise State posted an 18-under in Saturday's final round and earned a runner-up finish at PING Cougar Classic.

After a 5-under round one, the Broncos were among eight squads in the 20-team field who had their second round suspended due to darkness, Monday.

Boise State finished up round two, Saturday morning and sat in fifth place. Saturday's afternoon effort was the Broncos' best since a 19-under in the second round at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman, Wash., Sept. 11, 2017. The Broncos' 28-under for the tournament was also their best since a 32-under runner-up finish in Pullman.

"This was a huge day for us," Boise State head coach Dan Potter said. "I've said many times after solid finishes that we can play better and today we played great. We did a better job in this tournament of getting through the rough stretch. Our guys showed maturity yesterday and kept themselves in position to have a great finish like they did today. The whole team poured it on and it was fun to watch."

The Broncos surpassed host BYU, No. 29 New Mexico and Colorado State in the final round and trailed only No. 28 San Francisco. Boise State also finished 11 strokes ahead of No. 50 Utah and bested Mountain West members Wyoming, Nevada, UNLV and Air Force.

Hugo Townsend fired an 11-under, including a second round 66, to finish fourth. Joe Neuheisel tied for 12th on the strength of a final round 66 that included six birdies and an eagle.

Skyler Eubank tied for 20th at 4-under. His final round saw him posted a 6-under 66 despite being even through nine holes. Josh Gliege tied for 32nd at 2-under after a third round 69. Max Charles, who posted a victory in Boise State's last tournament, tied for 39th at 1-under and also had a 69 over the final 18 holes.

Boise State will travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain West Championship, April 30-May 1.
