TOKYO – Former Boise State track and field standout Jordin Andrade represented Cape Verde in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Friday.

Andrade competed out of lane seven in heat four of the event, clocking a time of 50.64, which was good for seventh in his heat and 32nd overall.

This is Andrade's second trip to an Olympic Games. He garnered the title of Olympian at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, becoming the first Cape Verdean to ever reach a semifinal round at an Olympic Games, placing 16th in the 400m hurdles.

In addition to becoming a two-time Olympian, the former Bronco experienced a historic first in his track and field career in Tokyo. Andrade had the privilege of being the male flag bearer for Cape Verde during the opening ceremony July 23.
Andrade is one of seven former Boise State track and field student-athletes to compete at the Olympic level. He is joined by Nick Cunningham, Kurt Felix, Troy Kemp, Wendell Lawrence, Eric Matthias and Jarred Rome.

Cunningham is Boise State track and field's lone Winter Olympian. After finishing his track and field career, Cunningham made the transition to bobsledding and competed in the 2010, 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympic Games. The Bobsledder has compiled four top-15 finishes between two-man and four-man bobsledding. Following the 2018 games, Cunningham took a two-year hiatus from competing to start his coaching career, but is considering a return with an eye on making the 2022 Beijing Olympic team.

Felix represented Grenada at the 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics. The decathlete was unable to finish and log a score in London, but showed flashes of brilliance during the competition, placing third in the long jump and fifth in the high jump. In 2016, Felix bounced back, notching a ninth-place finish for his country.

Kemp represented the Bahamas in three Summer Olympic Games, tied with Cunningham for the most Olympic appearances of any Bronco in school history. The high jumper's best finish came at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics when he cleared 7-feet, 7-inches (2.31m), to place seventh.

Lawrence represented the Bahamas at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. The triple jumper recorded a mark of 54-9.5 (16.70m) on his way to a 17th-place finish.

Matthias competed in discus for the British Virgin Islands at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He placed 37th after recording a throw of 53-1 (16.20m).

Rome is a two-time Olympian in discus representing the United States at the 2004 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Rome placed 13th (61.55/18.73m) in 2004 and 31st (59.57/18.13m) in 2012.
