THIS WEEK IN BRONCO VOLLEYBALL

WHAT'S HAPPENING: Boise State (8-1) returns home after two weeks on the road where they went undefeated at 6-0 and won two tournament titles. It is a big week for the Broncos who own a school record (tied) 8-1 overall mark to open the season heading into a home contest against 20th-ranked Utah Monday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. (Mountain) in Bronco Gym.

THE SERIES: The all-time series between the two programs is tied at 4-4 with the last meeting coming in 2002 in Boise when the Utes defeated the Broncos in three.

SCOUTING BOISE STATE: The Broncos enter the week at 8-1 overall, on a six-match win streak  and coming off a title run at the Sacramento State Invitational this past weekend. They defeated Pacific (3-0), CSUN (3-1) and Sacramento State (3-0) to claim Boise State's third-straight tournament title — two outright and one shared — to open the season.

Through nine matches, Boise State is led by Spring 2021 All-MW and 2021 Fall Preseason All-MW honoree Lauren Ohlinger who has recorded four double-doubles on the year and tallied teams highs for kills (128), service aces (19) and points (156.0). Ohlinger leads the Mountain West in kills per set at 3.76, total kills, total service aces and total points.

Makayla Hansen follows with 90 kills and 37 blocks. Kayly Pau is third with 50 kills. Alyssa Wissinger adds 49 kills and team-high 50 blocks, while Alli O'Harra contributes 44 kills and 40 blocks.

As a team, Boise State hits .254 percent (2nd MW) and holds opponents to .149 percent (2nd MW). The Broncos average 12.79 kills per set (6th MW), 2.94 blocks (1st MW), 2.21 service aces (2nd MW) and 14.24 digs (4th MW).

SCOUTING UTAH: The Utes are 7-0 overall and were ranked No. 20 in last week's AVCA coaches poll. Utah is sure to move up in the rankings on Monday after rallying from two sets down at No. 3 Nebraska on Saturday to win in five 3-2. Dani Drews leads Utah with 130 kills and is hitting .301 percent on the year.  As a team, Utah hits .270 percent (4th Pac-12) while its opponents have hit .150. The Utes lead the conference in total blocks with 79 and average 14.27 kills per set (2nd Pac-12). Utah was picked to place seventh in the Pac-12 race this fall. Last spring the Utes lost to Pitt in the NCAA first round to finish the year 13-5 overall and 13-4 in conference play.

FOLLOW THE ACTION: If you cannot attend, the best way to follow the action is by going to the volleyball schedule on BroncoSports.com and clicking on the appropriate "Live Scoring" and/or "Live Stream" links for the particular match you want to follow. For home and Mountain West contests the live stream is free of charge courtesy of the Mountain West Network.

ADMISSION: The price for attending the matches remains the same as in past years: $6 for adults, $4 for juniors (high school age and younger) and seniors 62 or older. Boise State students with valid ID cards and children two and under get in for free.

In addition, for the first time Boise State will be selling match tickets in advance for all volleyball home contests in 2021. Fans can purchase individual match tickets at the Boise State Ticket Office on the west side of Albertsons Stadium or via the internet at BroncoSports.com.

Seating is limited with the east side bleachers closed for the season due to COVID safety protocols that are in place for the 2021 campaign. So purchase your tickets early.

BRONCO SPORTS PASS: Once again Boise State will be offering the Bronco Sports Pass this year for $75, which will grant admission to all home regular season events during the 2021-22 season for: women's basketball, gymnastics, soccer, softball, volleyball and track & field. Note: The Bronco Sports Pass does not include any conference tournaments or postseason national tournaments hosted by Boise State.

Fans can purchase the Bronco Sports Pass at the Boise State Ticket Office on the west side of Albertsons Stadium or via the internet at Ticket Office.
