WHAT'S HAPPENING: Boise State (9-1) is home for the final weekend of nonconference play as it hosts the Boise State Classic this Thursday through Saturday featuring the Santa Clara Broncos (3-5) of the West Coast Conference and the Oregon State Beavers (2-6) out of the Pacific-12 Conference.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT: The tournament is a round-robin format with one match played on each day starting Thursday night and ending Saturday afternoon. All three contests will feature live scoring and a live stream on the MW Network.
BRONCOS VERSUS THE FIELD: The Blue and Orange is a combined 4-14 all-time versus this week's opponents.Â
SCOUTING BOISE STATE: The Broncos enter the week at 9-1 overall, on a seven-match win streak and coming off a title run at the Sacramento State Invitational this past weekend. They defeated Pacific (3-0), CSUN (3-1) and Sacramento State (3-0) to claim Boise State's third-straight tournament title — two outright and one shared — to open the season. The weekend tournament title was then capped off by a big upset of 10th-ranked Utah (3-1) at home on Monday. Â
Through 10 matches, Boise State is led by Spring 2021 All-MW and 2021 Fall Preseason All-MW honoree Lauren Ohlinger who has recorded five double-doubles on the year and tallied team highs for kills (144), service aces (20) and points (173.5). Ohlinger leads the Mountain West in kills per set at 3.76, total kills, total service aces and total points. She is ranked 9th nationally for service aces and 14th in total points.
Makayla Hansen follows with 104 kills and 43 blocks. Alyssa Wissinger is third with 58 kills and team-high 57 blocks, Kayly Pau is fourth with 56 kills and 23 blocks, while Alli O'Harra contributes 45 kills and 43 blocks.
As a team, Boise State hits .254 percent (2nd MW) and holds opponents to .153 percent (3rd MW / 36th NCAA). The Broncos average 12.92 kills per set (5th MW), 2.97 blocks (1st MW / 11th NCAA), 2.11 service aces (2nd MW / 13th NCAA) and 14.21 digs (3rd MW). Challenge where they beat then-24th-ranked South Carolina (3-1) and Clemson (3-1) before falling to Auburn (3-2). Julia Sangiacoma and Michelle Shaffer lead Santa Clara with 114 kills each. As a team, Santa Clara hits .247 percent (4th WCC) while its opponents have hit .253 (9th WCC). The Broncos were picked to place fifth in the West Coast race this fall.Â
SCOUTING OREGON STATE: The Beavers enter the weekend 2-6 overall and are coming off a 1-2 trip last Friday and Saturday at Fort Collins, Colo., where they lost to UAB (3-0) and Colorado State (3-2) before regrouping to down SIUE (3-0). Lindsey Schell leads the Beavers with 97 kills and 29 blocks followed by Kateryna Tkachenko with 71 kills. As a team, Oregon State hits .185 percent (12th Pac-12) while its opponents have hit .212 (9th Pac-12). Â

BRONCOS UPSET No. 10 UTAH: Boise State collected its biggest win to date on Sept. 13 at home when the Broncos knocked off 10th-ranked Utah 3-1. The Utes had just beaten No. 3 Nebraska on the road after rallying from two sets down. It was also only the third win over a AVCA top-25 team in Boise State history.

OHLINGER NAMED MW OFFENSIVE POW:Â Lauren Ohlinger was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week on Sept. 13 after leading Boise State to the Sacramento State Invitational championship hitting .284 and averaging 4.40 kills, 2.4 digs and 5.0 points per set.
BOSS RETURNS AT SETTER: Senior Danielle Boss returns at setter where she has started the previous three campaigns. She entered the season ranked ninth all-time and fifth in the rally scoring era (RSE) for career assists at Boise State with 2,151. She has opened the season with 275 to move into eighth place and fourth in RSE with 2,426.
THE BLUE WALL NATIONALLY RANKED: The Broncos' frontline has recorded double-digit team blocks in nine of 10 contests to date with a high of 15 against CSUN (Sept. 10). The Broncos lead the Mountain West and are ranked second nationally in blocking with 113, the wall is 11th in the NCAA for blocks per set at 2.97.
