Broncos Fall in Mountain West opener at Colorado State

9/23/2021 9:13:00 PM | Women's Volleyball

Ohlinger led Boise State with 12 kills, three service aces and nine digs.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Fort Collins jinx continues on as Boise State was swept on the road in its Mountain West Conference opener by Colorado State Thursday night. Boise State has never won in Fort Collins and is now 0-12 all-time in Moby Arena against the Rams.

Lauren Ohlinger led the Broncos with a team-high 12 kills — she was the only Bronco in double-figure kills — while hitting .242. She also had a team-high three service aces, tied for the team high in digs with nine and had a team-best 15.0 points against Colorado State.

Boise State never really seemed to gain much momentum in the match as every time the Broncos rolled off a run, the Rams came back with one of their own. The Broncos led late in both the second and third sets but were unable to hold off late CSU rallies to fall on the road 25-22, 25-23, 25-22.

The loss snapped a nine-match win streak as the Blue and Orange moved to 11-2 overall and 0-1 in MW play. Boise State will face another big challenge on Saturday when it plays at Wyoming at 1 p.m. (MT).

Boise State entered the match as the MW's top hitting team at .267 percent. But Colorado State held the Broncos to .128 percent as they struggled offensively. The Rams hit only .198 percent as neither team hit the ball well in the contest.

Alyssa Wissinger followed Ohlinger with nine kills while hitting .412 percent, she added five block assists and finished with 11.5 points.

Alli O'Harra added four kills and four blocks — one solo, while Makayla Hansen chipped in three kills and a team-high seven block assists.

Danielle Boss distributed a team-high 27 assists from the setter position and tied Ohlinger for the team high in digs with nine. She also had two kills, two service aces and one block assist.
