Boise State sweeps Wyoming in Laramie

Freshman Jordan Miller led the Broncos with a career-high 15 kills.
LARAMIE, Wyo. - Boise State was dominating on Saturday afternoon as the Broncos swept a Mountain West volleyball match at Wyoming. It was a nice way to regroup after falling on Thursday at Colorado State. Leading the charge for the Broncos against the Cowgirls were freshman Jordan Miller, who had a career match with a team-high 15 kills while hitting .393 percent, and Lauren Ohlinger, who followed by hitting an impressive .458 percent with 13 kills to go with seven digs.
"Today's win was an important bounce back from a poor performance Thursday night," said head coach Shawn Garus. "Allie Casillas and Jolei Akima did a really good job controlling serve receive against Wyoming, which gave Dani Boss lots of offensive options. Dani got Jordan (Miller) a lot of good balls early and she delivered. I'm happy for Jordan, she has been working really hard in practice."
The 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 win moved the Broncos to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. It was also the fifth win in Laramie all-time for Boise State who took a 15-14 advantage in the series. Next up for the Blue and Orange is a two-match homestand next week when San Jose State and Nevada come to Bronco Gym.
The Broncos opened the match with the Cowgirls on fire hitting .531 percent in the first set, a set Boise State never trailed in. Wyoming managed to keep it close but was unable to take a lead in the period.
Set two was a battle and saw 10 lead changes and 15 ties. With Wyoming leading 21-20, Boise State rallied for the win with a 5-1 run capped off by a Jolei Akima service ace, followed by Ohlinger with the set winning kill off the Cowgirl block.
The final set was all Boise State after the Broncos opened on a 5-1 run and led by as many as six points on a couple occasions.
Boise State finished the contest hitting .409 percent — the third-best hitting percentage this season — while holding Wyoming to .191 percent, the Blue and Orange is now 11-1 when holding opponents below .200 percent hitting. The Broncos had 46 kills off 45 assists, three service aces,  37 digs and a season-low four blocks. The Cowgirls countered with 25 kills on 35 assists to go with five service aces, 24 digs and five blocks.
Alyssa Wissinger was third in kill total for the Broncos finishing with six, followed by Danielle Boss and Makayla Hansen with five each. Boss also had a team-high 35 assists with nine digs, while Akima added a team-best 12 digs.
