Boss named MVP of the tournament while Hansen and Ohlinger made the all-tournament team.
IRVINE, Calif. - Boise State volleyball swept past the George Mason Patriots Saturday morning to claim the UCI/Adidas Invitational title with a perfect 3-0 mark in Irvine, Calif., this weekend. After a tight opening set, Boise State used runs midway through both the second and third sets to pull away and claim its first sweep of the season 25-21, 25-19, 25-14.
The victory improved the Broncos to 5-1 on the year overall with a trip to the Sacramento State Invitational on the slate for next week.
"It was another solid performance by the team with a lot of people involved," said head coach Shawn Garus. "We served really well again today and Dani (Boss) did a great job distributing the ball and getting a lot of people involved. I am really proud of the way the team competed this weekend, but we still have things to work on as we look to next week's Sacramento State Invitational."
Danielle Boss was named the tournament MVP from the setter position where she recorded three consecutive double-doubles on the weekend, including Saturday with 30 assists and 11 digs versus GMU. She did a good job spreading the attack around as the Blue and Orange hit a season-high .292 percent while the Broncos held the Patriots to .089 percent.
Makayla Hansen led Boise State against GMU by hitting .346 percent for a team-high 11 kills to go with six digs and three blocks to finish with 12.5 points. Lauren Ohlinger hit .259 for nine kills with a team-high four service aces, eight digs and 13.5 points.
Both were named to the all-tournament team for their performances over the weekend. Hansen hit .344 for a team-high 42 kills with eight blocks and 47.0 points over the three-match stretch. Ohlinger recorded a team-best 51.5 points on 38 kills, team-high 11 service aces and five blocks assists. She also recorded one double-double in the win over Southern Utah on Friday.
Alyssa Wissinger hit .400 against George Mason with five kills and had a team-high seven blocks to finish with 8.5 points. Kayly Pau added four kills and five blocks.
Defensively, Jolei Akima tallied a team-high 17 digs from the libero position and had three service aces.
